We have a NC St. transfer TE.....looks like we have a north Carolina transfer now.....Alex Asher.....looks like a decent receiver....we had offered him out of high school in Virginia:

Scout shows him at #2 on the depth chart. I have no idea how accurate it is.

His Ohiobobcats.com profile: Spent the past three years with the University of North Carolina football team... Began playing with the Tarheels after walked on the team in the fall of 2009... Competed on the North Carolina team that played in the Meineke Bowl in 2009 against Pittsburgh... Played high school football at Western Albemarle and Saint Anne's Belfield School... Helped guide Saint Anne's to the Virginia High School State Football Championship during his junior season... In 44 career high school games, he totaled 2,800 yards receiving and 44 touchdowns... He also rushed for 700 yards on the ground... His 2,800 yards receiving ranks No. 1 all-time in Central Virginia... His 14 receptions in one game stands as the 10th-highest total for a single game... Earned First Team All-State honor as both a tight end and a receiver.

Kind of odd that they picked up Asher, a RS-Sr formerly at UNC, and Talbert, a RS-Sr, formerly at NC-State, and both are Tight ends. In any case this should bolster the TE position for a year, while the incoming Freshmen can hopefully all redshirt. With the two transfers, Troy HIll, and Tyler Knight, they should give the younger players Davon Henry, John Tanner, Troy Mangen, and Mason Morgan time to develop.

As for the depth chart, the one in the media guide makes a lot more sense than the scout.com one, which is just plain goofy at some positions

Whatever became of Alex Asher? He is still listed on the official roster, but in discussions of tight ends, his name does not come up. For example, in his Media Day remarks, Solich talked about tight ends, and there was no mention of Asher.

Also, Arkley talks a bit about the shortage of tight ends on his blog today. Again, no mention of Asher.

He's on the website's roster.  Maybe they're just keeping him under wraps as a secret weapon vs. L'ville.

Asher is not part of the 105-man roster.

Which could mean that he is injured, or that for some reason he isn't currently available. At the very least it means that they aren't expecting him to play a major role, also confirmed by the fact that his name doesn't come up in discussions of TEs.

According to Arkley, Asher was on the sideline for today's scrimmage.

Right, sounds like Asher just got to camp today:

Quote:
New to camp on Wednesday was TE Alex Asher. The graduate student transfer from North Carolina was left off the original 105-man camp roster, but was on the sidelines Wednesday.
