The "problem" with all these places is getting there on short notice during the holidays. You pay through the nose if you have to fly, and you can't drive to the Bahamas. If money is no object, no problem, I guess.

Probable cheap deals for all inclusive cruise packages will be offered. From the multiple organizations involved.

Could be reasonably priced if the AD's of each MAC team pledged as part of the MAC being participants that their school will guarantee X amount of tickets sold and a certain amount of travelers guaranteed. Book a charter plane now with an unknown city of departure and you have a reasonable mode of travel.. Can't fill the plane then the school loses $$.

It still doesn't overcome the problem of trying to get time off during the holidays with only a few weeks notice. A solution to that would be to have the three MAC teams in guaranteed bowls to play in bowls that are all played on the same day or two. That way the power teams know that on say December 22nd they should be scheduled for a vacation! Make it to a different bowl and you deal with it the way we find the situation now.

At a 15,000-seat stadium???? I know the MAC wants to scale down its bowl venues so they don't look so empty, but this seems a bit radical.

There is absolutely no reason why Ohio shouldn't be able to fill it's 6500 to 7000 seat ticket allotment for this game. It seems like everyone complains about not having a desirable bowl destination well that can't be said for the Bahamas Bowl.

you still have to get to the port of departure. Not going to be cheap regardless of who's involved.

have we ever had 6000 for any bowl game or away game? Don't think so. Not going to happen. The reasons as stated above- cost,holiday season and last minute notice. We couldn't get 500 to New Orleans and that is an absolutely great location for a bowl.

15K full is a LOT better than 30K half empty...............

Why on earth does this board ever discuss expansion of Peden or going to another conference or being something better with that attitude? Did we sell our allotment for Nashville and St. Louis? Every other program in the country has to plan their bowl trips in a short amount of time. Pretty much every other program in the country easily gets more than 6500 to show up. Ohio draws over 6500 for a break game in hoops. The question is will our fan base ever really care about football?

The excuses are embarrassing first it is the bowl is in a crappy location then the location is great but it is the second fiddle bowl. A bowl in the Bahamas would be a 1st class experience with a first class location. 6500 should be an easy bogey. In a cold climate it would not be hard to surprise a love one with a trip to the Bahamas in December or January.

So I guess if Ohio runs the table this season and ends up in the Rose Bowl (a non AQ school would be slotted for Pasadena) we should expect to sell 600 tickets?

Before someones asks, I have not been to an Ohio bowl game. The GMAC Bowl, I was out of vacation days, The Pizza Bowl, I was going to the mainland the next month, The New Orleans and Potato Bowl was the birth of my daughter and her 1st birthday and last year I was working on starting my new career. It made me sick to miss these games with the exception of the New Orleans and Potato. I did travel to see Ohio in the Rainbow classic and I scheduled a trip to specifically see the Kentucky game in person.

Actually, the complaint has been about half-empty 60,000 seat stadiums. If they want to fill a 15,000 seat stadium for a bowl game, I'm sure there are lots of them closer to home that are more accessible to our fan base.

We had more than 500 in New Orleans.

The 3 most impressive road crowds I've been a part of were Marshall in football last year, the MAC Tournament final in hoops last year and the Sweet 16 two years ago. The New Orleans crowd was pretty great at the time, IMO. Our fanbase has grown a lot since then...

Those were great road crowds and I think we would have a great road crowd in the Bahamas.

I also anticipate a great road crowd at Louisville. Bobcat road crowds have been very respectable of late.

as I recall we sold 278 tickets to New Orleans bowl, not counting student bus tickets. Undoubtedly some folks bought tickets through other sources. I still doubting more than 1000 or so total. If you have other numbers , please let me know. Comparing attendance at Marshall or even Penn State last year or Northwestern a few years ago does not mean much compared to the bowl thing for reasons already stated.
Now, if we were to play a BCS team in a bowl within 500 miles, we could do 6000 or more(maybe).

So there's now 38 bowls plus four teams in the playoff, right? Meaning 80 teams make the postseason. Even though the MAC has only maybe four primary affiliations, it seems most years there will continue to be far more MAC teams in bowls.

No way we could get 6,000 to the Bahamas. We couldn't even get that many to Detroit (a day trip for most fans) a couple years ago.

I agree that our fanbase is growing. However, our fanbase also does not have a great deal of expendable income. Your average family pack fan from Nelsonville can't drop $2,000 on a Christmas trip to Nassau.

I think the reasoning that a Bahamas bowl trip would have a large contingent is not based just on past bowl attendance. The thought is that such a destination location, unlike most of our other bowl locations would entice alumni to make a vacation of it. First our great success the past 5 years in football and basketball I bet has done wonders for alumni pride and attention to the school. So you would get your normal 1000+ hardcore backers that would make a trip. After that I think the hope would be that if the university promoted it well we could attract thousands more to attend, as I said based on the vacation destination aspect. Now I do think 6,000 might be pushing it, but I think we could get more alumni to this game (as long as it only happens every few years) than we could get to any other bowl game that wasn't a BCS game.

Good grief. The Bahamas? 15,000 seat stadium? This is getting extra silly.

Maybe OU could make some money by creating a bowl in Peden and tricking two teams into paying to play in it.
