when Louie lined up for  the first play from scrimmage:  Their O-line outweiighed our D-line by 49-50 lbs on average.

Given that our D-line was all new starters with not many of them having played a lot, and that our biggest single need is for a couple of playmakers on the Dline, well, you saw what happened.

We are getting there.  I suspect that there are D-line playmakers  on the team.  But they won't emerge until later this season.

Add the loss of Keith Moore on their first possession and we had a recipe for no pass pressure and open receivers for them.

The offense will get better, too.  Also some inexperience on the O-line.  Our qbs need to step into their throws, need to be able to do so.

Injuries to Lechner and Sam Johnson do not help.  And it should not have been nearly as one-sided as it was.

And maybe this is reaching for excuses.  But I just readed the article in Sports Illustrated about the history of the silent snap count (to counteract crowd noise).  The importance of offensive line coordination cannot be discounted.  Hopefully, we'll get that as we play on--much more so than today.

On the "silent snap count" point: I didn't really like how the RG was signaling to the C that he could snap. To my UNTRAINED eye, the RG would smack the C on the leg to signal the "ready to snap". This year, however, he would leave his hand on the C's leg, and its removal would signal that he was free to snap.
