Bass (and to a degree, Boykin) is the only player who played remotely inspired today.

One game closer to a new offensive coordinator.

Main thing is the inability of the front four to do much, putting so much pressure on the rest of the defense.  The front four will get better.

Also, the offensive line needs to get better.  It will.

This was a tough match up for an OHIO team that is replacing a lot of guys on the lines.  Louisville is good.  If they play like that all year, they'll only move up in the polls.

Don't mistake one bad outing for the sky having fallen permanently.

Give it a few weeks before you conclude that this sky is falling.

Yes, today was disappointing.  But this team will get better.

Before I hear, "fire the coach". Before I hear, "this season is over". Before I hear, "put Vick in as QB." I need to hear, " We played a legit #9 team and got our ass handed to us. However, we will bounce back. This was just a first, non-MAC game. We have two tough ones at home coming up. Let's support our Cats, and let's go forward. We will play equal competition next week at home. We will see more of what we can do. Louisville has NO ONE on their schedule this year so they were very ready for the Bobcats. Most said OHIO was the hardest team on their schedule so they were very focused. We will have a good season, but we have much to do. I don't think Northern would have fared much better against the Cardinals. Iowa and Louisville are much different teams. I'm disappointed by today's game, We got beat. We got beat bad. We handled it with class and learned a lot about our team.

I'm done.

Go Bobcats!

Oh yes, good luck Louisville for the rest of the season. This is a very, very good team! I love the atmosphere they have created at that school (much like ours). We are just beginning at OHIO to bring that to OUr school. We have years of winning on all levels on the horizon.

Go Bobcats!

In addition to Bass, I'd give a nod to Cochran.  He had a couple of nice gainers before he was shaken up in the 4th Q (hope it's not serious).

I thought Ben Russell had a nice game at LB.

There was at least 1 clue a week ago, from Arkley.  He wrote a piece after a practice saying how unhappy Solich was with the team's work.  As I recall, Arkley asked if he saw anything he liked, and he answered, "No."

I disagree with Sony above.  I don't think Eastern Mich or the other dregs of our league would have fared much better against Cards today, but I do believe the talented teams, like BG or Northern, would not have lost by 40+ points.  We are supposed to be a talented team.  All and all, a pretty sorry performance by everyone, coaches and players.

And dangit, we'd better find a kicker!

Russell made a couple nice tackles.

I like Boykin's burst off the line.

It's hard to judge playcalls from a blowout game like this, but there was a lot of stuff Solich called that I didn't like at all. Way too conservative early in the game.

What a day at the Convo.....Wow!

I gotta disagree. Our offense today consisted of (1) run up the middle, (2) screen pass, or (3) chuck it deep and see if someone catches it. And our issues on D were more issues of athleticism and talent, not scheme. Not sure you learn a lot from tape of that.

I think I move Marshall to a loss, because they have some real athletes at the skill positions (not quite as good as Louisville but probably good enough to beat us), but no one else on the schedule is going to compare to what we faced today.

Now the season really starts.

From here on out OHIO will be playing schools it can compete with.  Don't give another thought to the Louisville game. The real season starts Saturday with North Texas.  Don't let Louisville beat us again on Saturday.

I know where you're coming from, but last year we made a lot of teams look like world beaters on offense, even UMass and Akron who we play this year, and Ball State. They apparently don't have to have Louisville's talent to make our defense look pretty bad.
And other than option runs with the QB, I'm not sure we have a lot of offensive plays-enlighten me on that.

Program reminded me of my time in the 80's. We looked like a Homecoming easy win for a program we strive to become. Joke. Embarrassing. Waste of my time, Step backwards and a ton to prove. BG, Toledo, NIU and others will hand it too us if we don't get serious.

Eliminate the QB as a running threat, and you're right, we don't have a lot of plays. If the QB is a threat to run, you have to commit a defender to eliminate the threat, and that opens up the options in both the downfield passing game and the running game.

That's what I saw today....an offense that did not want to expose the QB to the threat of contact under any circumstances. There was no read on the zone read; it was just handoff, and carry out the bootleg. There were no rollouts, no moving the pocket, etc. Our QBs didn't even hold on to the ball long real in the pocket (not that they had a lot of time)....the passes seemed designed to get the ball out of the QB's hands as fast as possible.

Also, did we throw a single pass to a tight end today? Or run a single jet sweep or even outside pitch?

If I want tape on this team, I'm watching the first half of the bowl game last year and probably the Marshall game last year. Those were the last two "complete" games we played where we didn't seem to hold anything back.

There was the one big gainer to TE Talbert. One of the few highlights from the game

I don't think this is a scheme you'll see again.  As others have said, Ohio was trying to shorten the game and played incredibly conservative early.  I think they were conservative on both sides of the ball, but it was most noticeable on offense.

What I liked is that the team didn't come out super emotional.  They didn't seem to care about shocking the world with an upset.  You want to play every game to win, but if you put too much emphasis on a high-profile potential upset like this, you usually end up with a loss (sometimes a "moral victory") and a huge emotional letdown in the following weeks.  And that leads to more losses.  So I liked that they treated this just like any other game, came out and played their game running some bread-and-butter stuff.  If it works and you get some bounces, maybe you win, if not live to play another day.

Bass, Boykin, and Vick impressed me.  The DL I thought held up alright given they were being asked to generate a pass rush with four guys.  The team looked okay.  The serious injuries to three key guys are far more depressing to me than the final score.
