Recently becoming a season ticket holder to both UNC and OHIO basketball I recalled a story I saw about the UNC Argyle look...Here is a portion of that article.

Just so we are clear...I do not root for UNC when OHIO is the opponent and I have only ever worn green and white on those occasions.

“To have Dean Smith call you and ask for new uniforms for the Tar Heels was like having God ask for new halos for the archangels,” Julian joked to Home Accents Today. His suggested argyle pattern, he said, was “the weightiest design decision I ever made, because if I screwed it up I could never go home again!”

It wasn’t just Smith that Julian had to sell the merits of his design to. The coach, ever the diplomat, involved all of his assistants and his players in the decision. Rather than trying to sell each of them one by one, Julian enlisted the services of someone who could do that naturally.

“Michael [Jordan] was relatively popular at the time,” Julian recalled. “This was 1991, and he was in Chicago, on top of the world. I called Michael and asked him to be my sounding board for the designs … Michael liked the argyle best. And guess what? As soon as Michael said that, then the entire team also liked the argyle best.”

Off the goal post through the press box, nothin' but net.
