Inferiority complex

Somebody mentioned in another post that Marshall's fans have a superiority complex, but I have to wonder if we're the opposite. That, or we're a fan base filled with pessimists. Look at the main topics of discussion since the latest win:

We don't have as much talent as Marshall, we got lucky.
Without turnovers, we wouldn't have won.
Our fans, in the fourth largest crowd in school history, was sterile and unenthusiastic.
Our quarterback is nowhere near as good as their quarterback.

It's pretty embarrassing. I can't imagine what players for OHIO would think if they read this. Do you think they feel they got lucky, or that they earned the victory? Do you think they looked across the field and felt overmatched talent-wise?

I'd love to mention the turnover issue, because that one strikes me as one getting more play than it's worth. We had four turnovers, scored two touchdowns and a field goal as a result. Yet it's assumed that Marshall would've scored much more without the turnovers. None of their turnovers really came on drives where they were threatening. Here they are:

Turnover #1: Fumble after gaining 27 yards in the drive, were still 45 yards out of the endzone.
Turnover #2: Fumble on first play of drive, team had done nothing yet.
Turnover #3: Fumble on kickoff, before the drive started.
Turnover #4: Interception on first play of drive.

There is nothing saying they would've scored on any of those drives.

Enjoy the victory. Give our players credit. Give our best quarterback in quite some time a little love.

I haven't read Ohio fans saying we got lucky. Ohio fans are quoting Marshall media and fans saying we got lucky.

Actually I think that the mention on the other thread was that Marshall fans may have an inferiority complex, which causes them to claim to be superior. As for Ohio, I don't think they have either. I think they just tend to make objective comments.

Regarding your points:
1. We don't have as much talent - this one surprised me. I'm not willing to concede this. I think that the talent level is pretty close. It is true that on recruiting boards Marshall tends to have more 3-star talent than Ohio does, but I don't think that you can see that on the field. I didn't take Ohio fans as necessarily agreeing with this. More I took it that Ohio fans didn't feel like it was worth arguing about, probably because it's too subjective.
2. Without turnovers we wouldn't have won - I think most Ohio fans agree with this, and I sort of do. On the other hand, Ohio tends to make its own turnovers. Turnovers aren't simply random. Even then, had their been no turnovers, Ohio would have played the game differently, so it's hard to know how it would have played out. Again, this isn't worth arguing about, because it's too speculative.
3. Fans were too quiet - Ohio fans are much better than they were in years past. I could certainly hear them over the radio, and a few years ago that was not the case. Still, there is always room for improvement.
4. Our quarterback is nowhere near as good as their quarterback - I didn't see anyone wanting to trade Tettleton for Cato. Cato is flashier, but Tettleton knows how to win.

Basically I thought Ohio fans were being courteous and respectful to Marshall, and giving them their due - they played a nice game, they might have won wtihout the turnovers, Cato is a good QB, etc, etc. I'm glad that Ohio fans are respectful to foes. I don't see anything about it that doesn't reflect appreciation for the job Ohio's players did.

Perhaps All this talk about talent level can somewhat be settled by looking at number of players drafted, all-conference players and All-American players. I haven't done this, but it would be interesting to me. I don't think that recruiting stars have a huge correlation to how players turn out in college, at least at the 2-3 star level.
I'm not saying that it does anything to take away from our win- in fact if there is any significant difference in their favor, it makes our win even sweeter in a way.
