Here is the updated injury Status
Still recovering from surgery or off season injury
Zack Murdock reserve OL - (will no doubt redshirt)
Justin Haser - reserve OL
Eric Price - reserve DE
Jake Schany - #3 WLB
Out for year
John Tanner 3d string TE (shoulder, career may be over)
Davon Henry 3d string TE (shoulder popped)
Out for at least a few weeks
Justin Wyatt 3d string WR - (ankle sprain, out for a few weeks, may redshirt)
Ray Lichtenstein competitor for K job - (groin?)
Mark Smith #2 C/LG - (hand injury)
Keith Moore #1 WLB - (ankle)
Jon Lechner #1LG  - (shoulder, had MRI, will be out multiple weeks)
Sam Johnson #1 RG - (knee, had MRI, will be out multiple weeks)
Out for unknown amount
Landon Smith #2 WR - (shoulder)
Ryan McGrath #1 RT - (knee, was hurt in practice last week)
Ian Wells #1 CB - (ankle, was hurt in practice last week)
Mario Dovell #1 WR - (knee)
AJ Grady #1SLB - (shoulder)
Blake Scipio #2 Nickle- (ankle)
Aaron Macer #2/3 SS - (unknown, hurt against Marshall)

All told, normal starters that did not start were Johnson, Lechner, McGrath, and Dovell on offense, and Moore, Grady,  Wells on defense, a total of 7 of 22 starters, up from 6 against NTSU. In addition Mark Smith, Landon Smith, and Blake Scipio would have been in the playing rotation.

It's Peay week, followed by a bye. By the time the MAC season starts against Akron, hopefully most of these will be back. While these numbers are high, unlike last year, they are not season enders in most cases.

Tony Davis played. Maybe he didn't appear in the participation report, but I know I saw him on the field.

Also, Matt Amicone dressed last night.

Participation reports are notoriously unreliable, so that isn't surprising. Good to hear Amicone dressed. Hopefully with 2 more weeks, most of the people on that list will be back.

Might most of those with minor injuries be kept out next Saturday as well just to make sure they are ready for Akron?

Branz was the only one of these that was able to play, though he did not start. A number of other players either did not start, or did not play, or did not play much. I don't know if that was due to injury or other reasons.

Ian Wells #1/2 CB - Listed as participating, but did not start, had no tackles
Jamil Shaw #1/2 CB - Listed as participating, but did not start, had no tackles
Bloodbath McGrath #1 RT - Did not play at all
Tony Davis #2 DT - Did not play at all
Cameron McLeod #3 DT - Did not play at all

Andrew Bennett #4 DT - Did not play at all

I've watched the game twice already and Davis and McCleod both played........there can be only one.

Good to hear, Doc. Thanks. I found it hard to believe that against the uptempo Marshall offense they didn't do some rotation on the interior line.

Austin Peay has been outscored 125-13 through its first 3 games so for Ohio this week is almost a bye week where injured players can get another week of rest before the start of MAC play. With the nature of these injuries a lot of guys are going to be back down the stretch for Ohio which will be a nightmare for the opposing teams to prepare for.

There has been a great deal of discussion concerning injuries and the strength program.  As many have indicated, ankle and knee injuries are going to happen in particular when a player lands on the leg.  With that said, it seems that the high number of shoulder injuries the past couple of years may be higher than normal?

Could it be that the number of injuries we experience (especially knees/ankles) are retaliation for cut blocks? We cut block a lot, and defensive players (especially D lineman) do not tend to appreciate the technique.

It's true that Austin Peay hasn't played very well so far, but I think it's a mistake to not respect the opposition.  Just about anyone on the I-A or I-AA levels has enough talent to give a team trouble if you don't take them seriously.

Ya.  What's with Shaw?  Did he get buried in the depth chart or does he have an injury?

I'll tell ya where we'll go. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talkin' bout a little place called... ATHENS.
