I sort of thought the atmosphere was sort of weak from the home crowd. I feel like the press box side of the stadium is always quiet, but even the Ozone seemed out of it. The only time it was loud was when we did the "OU, Oh Yeah" chant. I hope this changes...

I thought the atmosphere was great. Disappointed that most of the students left at half-time.

As an alum from the mid nineties I understood then why student participation for football was lousy! Now I just don't understand it, good football atmosphere on a Saturday night and rushing to the pub or another bar after halftime has more importance!! I drove down from Columbus with the family and it really hit me that WE have not turned the corner..
I should put it out there that I was the moron who sat through The Utah St. Game in 94!

We need to pass a law that lets bars stay open later when there's a night home game.

We will get by.

This is why I'm against any sort of expansion.  Our students don't stay (which will only look worse with a bigger stadium) and the rest of the fans treat it like it's a night at the opera.  We are winning a hard fought game against a rival and most fans want to just sit and maybe golf clap when we score a touchdown.  It is absolutely embarrassing when the away fans are louder than our fans.

The opposing team sucks!

In fairness, that was the weakest Marshall showing I've seen in Peden. Their fans didn't show us up by any means.

However, the "golf clap" culture is one that is deeply rooted in our fans. It's not that they "don't care" as some have suggested...but I think it's merely the accepted cultural norm around OUr football games. If no one else is screaming/clapping, it takes some guts to do so. I think some may want to be more participative, but it's tough to be "that guy" so to speak. If I had a dime for every time I heard "sit down" or "down in front" around me at Peden, I'd be a pretty rich man.

Dude I was the other guy that sat through that game as well. Lol

I want the tower side to start booing them as they leave.

I think  the weak HURD showing was due more to our increased season ticket sales than apathy on the part of OUr competition.

In the men's room, though, I did overhear two HURD fans saying that they should drop us from their schedule, since there's nothing in it for them.

So the series is fine, as long as we roll over for them.

Maybe the long TV timeouts contribute to the lull that comes over the crowd during the games that are televised. Just

a hunch but there is a lot of  times where our stadium went quiet last night. The band plays during the extended time

outs  but it is a lot to ask for them to keep the crowd hyped for nearly 4 hours.

A huge video scoreboard would be a great tool to keep the fans engaged. Lots of highlights past and present, show

the success of our other sports, energize the crowd, etc.

At our Rutgers game in 2011 they used their video to keep the crowd engaged. Very nice.

Bingo!  There was an announced "media time out" in the fourth quarter that was met with a collective and loud groan from the home side stands.  After the groan people were cracking up because the groan captured the essence of what so many people were feeling.  These tv games just grind on and on.  3.5 hours is way too long for one game.  Too much stoppage time so to speak.

Many fans (myself included) like that the band is able to play for most of the extended timeouts. I don't want hip-hop music and video highlights.

Double bingo. That's exactly right. The TV timeouts are enough to drive you crazy--both in your living room and in the stadium.

I guess I'm in the minority. I thought the atmosphere was great. I also disagree that "most" of the students left at halftime. I'd say a fifth left after the 110 played, and about a third were gone at the end. That's not most. As a 1996 graduate, I saw a lot of atrocious football, and lived through a culture of understandable apathy toward the program. That's gone now. Kids were decked out in Ohio gear before and after the game. I fail to see how it's a failure when every kid isn't as rabid of a fan as message board nerds like us. They went to the game. They care about our team. They cheered. Some left early on a chilly night when the bars and house parties were beckoning. Get over it and enjoy the progress.

I was also at the infamous Utah State game. As I recall it, by far the best action was the 110's incessant and very clever heckling of the USU bench.

I think there needs to be more concern and focus spent on getting the students to stay in their seats and do the spirited things that students do than on the Tower side of the stands.

Many here can attest to my years spent as "That Guy". But things happened, like age and kids and a matured sense of humility and drives home that aren't any longer than they were 15 years ago but sure seem that way. So I don't stand every 3rd down. Especially when it's the fourth in the last 12 plays.

Meanwhile, I think one of the sadder things in college sports is a 60 year old man in body paint and a cape.

I thought we held our own though when the Cow People started their deal.

The student body straight up bailed on the game. No reason to candy coat that fact.

Crowd was full through halftime, students were great a making noise.  Main stand could have been better, but that's to be expected.  After halftime was kind of disappointing to see 1/3 of the students leave after the 110 was done and then more slowly leave as the game took forever.  Was a decent exodus after we went up by 14 by both sets of fans.  Would really be interested in why the students stay the game for some games and not others.  I still remember watching that awesome Temple game where everyone stayed all game.

The drinking/party scene has a lot to do with it. Temple was on a Tuesday...most students aren't hitting the bars hard. Saturday night at 10:00? That's pretty much THE time to go uptown.

Unfortunate, but true...

That's because that was on ESPN main channel.  Everyone stayed for a chance to appear on TV...and to rush the field if (when) we won.

I thought the crowd sucked for a rivalry game. Even in the first half, I thought the student crowd was much less wild than it has been in past years. And then the mass exodus happened. Sometimes I wonder if things would be different if we had just an ordinary marching band.

Props again to Situation. He made noise on every. single. defensive play.

That's the thing, I do feel like that guy, and that I'm embarrassing my fiancee. But we are going to the Bengals-Patriots game in a few weeks, and I will be the same guy there that I was last night and I'm sure my behavior will be perfectly acceptable.
