Game Reaction

My friend is a senior journalism major at Ohio University and is seeking input about Ohio's victory against Austin Peay. He is working on a project for his online journalism class that involves interaction from readers and will then write a story about the reactions and post it on his blog for class (brandonkors.wordpress.com) Please comment on your reactions to the game as well as posting pictures and videos. If you would prefer, you can direct message me with your pictures and videos that include your actual full name so he can give credit to the applicable person. My reaction to this game was more about game day.

It's nice to see that 8 - 9 thousand fans would actually show up in miserable weather to watch the Cats play. Yeah, it's Parent's Weekend, but still. Wouldn't have happened a few years ago.

It was nice to see the backups get significant PT at home. Vick and Edmund together in the backfield have me excited about next year already. Seeing a Bobcat back stiff arm somebody at the line of scrimmage and sit 'em down was worth the ticket price. Visions of Kalvin McRae.

OUr play? Well, it was efficient but not quite as overwhelming as I expected. If Peay hadn't spent the day wasting every opportunity they had, we might have had to work a little harder, play a little better.

All in all, a good day for the program.

But that's just me.

I just wonder how much AP's pace of play affected our team. We've gotten so used to facing no-huddle teams that it was really weird seeing a team huddle-up. They had a 36.5-23.5 advantage in possession time, but if you add up the runs, passes, punts and FG tries for each team, Peay had only a 75-73 edge in total snaps. On average, they ran a play every 29 seconds while we had one every 19 seconds. The math may be a bit off because they had so many false start penalties that could slightly change the average, but still our defensive players were standing around a lot more than they're used to. Probably kept them fresh, but I wonder if it affected their intensity.

Would have liked to have had a 100 yard rusher in the first half. Running back by committee is fine so long as it works, but I do miss those ridiculous stat lines Beau had last year (and not just because he's on my fantasy team).

I like the chemistry T^2 and Waters have. Those 2 have each other figured out.

Can't complain too much about the defense with the shutout, but it feels like AP moved the ball a little too easily, especially on the ground. Yes, we were playing a lot of the younger guys, but it wasn't a shutout effort.

I'm ready for the Yazdani era at kicker. Mr. Green, you look great in practice, but you aren't getting the job done on the field. Keep working and maybe you'll earn another shot.
