Saw a headline up here stating that Toledo had signed home and homes with Arkansas State and Fresno State. They also had a list of upcoming schedules for the Rockets. I have to say, if Ohio is on the road these weeks, I'll be buying up seats to see these matchups in my backyard. I'd be super pumped if we could get a Nevada or Fresno State on the schedule, much less the Hurricanes and Mizzou.

FUTURE TOLEDO FOOTBALL SCHEDULES

2014
Aug. 30 - NEW HAMPSHIRE
Sept. 6 - MISSOURI
Sept. 13 - at Cincinnati (Paul Brown Stadium)
Sept. 20 - at Iowa State

2015
Sept. 19 - IOWA STATE
Sept. 26 - ARKANSAS STATE

2016
Sept. 3 - at Arkansas State
Sept. 17 – at Tulsa
Oct. 1 - FRESNO STATE

2017
Sept. 9 - at Nevada
Sept. 16 - TULSA
Sept. 23 - at Miami (FL)

2018
Aug. 30 - MIAMI (FL)
Sept. 15 - at Fresno State
Sept. 22 - NEVADA

I haven't looked into it much, but I wonder if that UC game being played at Paul Brown is due to the renovations and they'll play all home games there, or if they just generally think they will attract more than 35K to that game.

This thread reminds me...did we ever schedule a return at UConn? Or was that just a one-game deal?

Fresno State is give or take 50% former Ohio people. And they're rolling this year. Who knows if that buzzsaw will still be going when Toledo gets them

UCONN's visit to Athens was a return game from a game played at their place a number of years prior, before they were FBS.  I don't recall the exact number of years between games, but I think it was more than the usual few years.

All UC home games next year are at Paul Brown because of the renovation.

It was in 2002 that Ohio played UConn at its old on campus stadium. That was back when UConn was an Independent FBS program with as standing Big East invite for 2004. The return game in Peden Stadium was in 2009 so it was seven years later.

I believe that was also actually one of Tom Boeh's 2 for 1 deals, and the return trip to UConn was cancelled.

You have to give them a lot of credit for their scheduling philosophy . Miami does the same while having much poorer teams. Ohio will stay in the "lousy schedule" mode as long as Solich and or Schauss are here. You would think that 9 years in, that the philosophy might change, but it doesn't look to be changing much. It makes you wonder what will be the philosophy after Frank retires in a few years.

By the way, that's what Nebraska does for OOC games so Frank comes by it naturally. And he has the Bill Snyder example there as well.

I know it's not a major factor, but I sometimes wonder how much Ohio's isolation affects who will come play here. Wish we had a real airport with scheduled service instead of a 1 1/2 or 2 hour drive (I'm guessing) drive from Columbus.

2002 was UConn's transitional year when they were going from 1-AA to 1-A, as the terms were then used.

I wouldn't think much, many schools are an hour or more away from a major airport that will accept charter jets.  And they have little problem bringing people in.

Good for Toledo.  That is how you schedule to get fan interest and to differentiate yourself with recruits.

Ohio has been upgrading the schedule, so I'm a bit confused by some of the posts here. They have added 1:1 games with Kansas and Cincy, which I think most people would agree was a step up from the Louisiana-Lafayette, New Mexico State, Wyoming, and North Texas.  In fact, I think a Big Twelve team and an AAU team would be considered by most to be a step above a Sunbelt and an MWC team (Arkansas State and Fresno State).

The problem is always going to come back to what is financially feasible. 2:1 games kill the budget, and prevent having 6 home games, which hurts in numerous ways. Thus, scheduling is going to be a question of finding people willing to agree to a 1:1 deal.

I get the Cincy 1:1, but Kansas? That's not generating much interest even if they are from the Big XII. We better hope they win more games so people at least know they have a football team when they come here.

Kansas is an AQ school, after all. One never knows how good a team is going to be 5-10 years out. You might have said the same thing ten years ago if Ohio had scheduled a game against Oregon.

Some people are going to be happier if you schedule more semi-local teams, like Marshall, CIncy,  and Louisville. For others it's more important that you play some AQ teams. Partly it's also a function of who you can get to agree. Games against the likes of Kentucky, Vandy, Wake Forest, Purdue, and Virginia Tech would make everyone happy, I think....if you could get them.

Honestly, I would trade Kansas for Fresno in a heartbeat.  Fresno has been a good team for a good string of years and is nationally ranked this year.  Now, if it were basketball, it's a different story.

PEDEN HOLDS 25K MAX WITH MANY BEING STUDENT (I.E. NO EXTRA REVENUE) SEATS AND YOU CANNOT CHARGE $100 OR MORE PER SEAT IN SOUTHEASTERN OHIO.

Oh.  Sorry.  Didn't realize I was shouting.  I was just trying to get the attention of those who think that we're going to get many name teams to come to Peden.  Kansas is a terrific get.

That's incorrect. The UConn series was a home and home.
