I think this is a fair article that explores both sides of the argument to some degree. A couple things that jump out are the cost-it seems very high for that number of seats, and the speculation that they might be invited to a major conference. No way to PAC 12 IMO, but the Big 12 is a possibility- they need some additional teams to keep up it seems. Anyway, CSU better start winning if they want to feed this monster.

This sounds very familiar to what happened at Akron when they built Infocision. An old, delapidated stadium off campus is being replaced by a very expensive, yet only a wee bit bigger stadium on campus. Count me in with the group that thinks this a terrible idea for Colorado State. Since 2003, they've had exactly TWO winning seasons. Another season they went .500, but other than that, it's been a lot of 3-9 and 4-8 seasons.

I haven't yet read the article...but this just seems like an incredibly large amount of money to invest in a stadium.  With public spending today, cost benefit analysis is so important.  Would this large of an investment pay off?

The best thing about this thread has been seeing what Ken Starr is up to these days; but I'm dating myself.

The real question is: How many more luxury suites will the new stadium have vs the old stadium? That's where the money's at.

If they can raise the funds via private donations and sell the luxury boxes ahead of time, I say all the power to em.

The height of madness and/or hubris.  I went to an OU game in Fort Collins many moons ago (Earl Bruce was CSU's coach at the time) and there were about 7,000 people in attendance.

CSU averaged 19,250 last year, but they were lousy. As a resident of the state for 33 years,
I'd have to say that there's not any obvious big number of rabid CSU fans that I can tell in the state. When sonny Lubick (sp) was there, they had some good years and they were taken more seriouly than they have been since he left. Winning would no doubt help, but you just have to wonder about filling a 42000 seat stadium. Air Force averages over what CSU does, but that's a whole different deal. Only having three FBS schools in the state probably helps their chances of being "the team" and they may be able to pull it off with better teams for a long time.

Especially since Colorado has been down like it has. I think they've got the right coach in place now, so it's only a matter of time before the Buffaloes turn the corner. What's the atmosphere like in Denver? Are people all about the Broncos or do they like the Buffs and Rams as much?

This seems plain silly. A team that averages less in attendance than we do (and with far less football success recently) is mortgaging the farm on a new stadium?

No thanks...I'll take a charming (yet aging) Peden any day of the week. I'd be furious if we started designing a stadium like that without the means to pay for it. Need to keep things in perspective.

In looking at the cost alone, how necessary is it to have $246 million to build a stadium that seats 42,000?  I have no idea what building costs are, but I have a hard time believing that it will cost THAT MUCH to build a new stadium.

I started this as a new post, but should have added it here: If you’ve never seen The University of Akron’s $61.6 million InfoCision Stadium completed in 2009, you should check it out. Beautiful facility. You can really get a good look at the stadium during this Homecoming halftime performance by their marching "OHIO PRIDE" band in 2012: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qC71hct1IEg  because there are virtually NO fans in the seats! The saying in Akron is, “If you build it, they can’t tear it down for twenty or thirty years. Sad really.

Go Bobcats!
