It isn't often I turn off a game, but that one got silly in the early going.  Come halftime, I switched back to playing some Grand Theft Auto V.

It sure moved them up in the polls.  After their close win over EIU they lost votes and were 31st in the AP poll and 30th in USAT.  Now they're 23rd in USAT and 26th in AP.

If EIU played at Purdue next week I have to believe EIU would be the oddsmaker's favorite.  EIU isn't really a traditional 1AA power and Purdue won a national title about 45 years ago.....  That idea that EIU would be favored to win at Purdue may make Herbstriet's head explode but I'd say that its almost certainly true.

In the polls beat EIU drop but Beat Purdue go up.  Yeah, I know part of it was the margin of victory but still I think the perception of the opponent's in the voters minds is probably way, way off.

Put these 8 teams in order of best to worst: Louisville, North Texas, Marshall, Austin Peay, Iowa, Idaho, Eastern Illinois, Purdue,

You are correct.  I looked it up.  The 1966 Rose Bowl winner was not a national champion.

It was the '67 Rose Bowl - following the '68 season.

And the bonus question and to completely hijack the topic - "who played QB for Purdue on that (non-championship) team?

would that have been when Griese was there? Just a guess.

Or perhaps Mike Phipps?

Griese sounds right to me since he was with the Dolphins (already) in '72.  Phipps, unfortunately, came to the Browns a few years later.  I refuse to say anything bad about Mike Phipps Brown's career except that he was no Bob Griese.

It was Bob Griese. Another cheerful Rose Bowl fact... Purdue won the game when SC went for and missed a 2 pt conversion.

Bobcat Trivia: Griese's first game as a sophomore was against OHIO. The score was 17-0 in favor of Purdue. Griese scored all 17 points -- he kicked the FG and the extra points. If he hadn't made it at QB, he was going to be a place kicker. I was there.
