It is expected that many of those injured players will be back against Akron. I expect a rested, healthy, hungry Bobcat team.

This is another game that will test our secondary.  Pohl put up 632 yds passing the last two games out of his 873 for the season, while their ground game managed just 241.  We can handle their runners ok, so the emphasis should be on pass defending.  And of course turnovers; they stayed with Mich only because of four Mich TOs.

Pohl is a far cry from last year's Akron QB, Dalton Williams.  He is very pick-able.

Akron Depth Chart  http://static.psbin.com/i/z/ugx40tx09j4fsj/akron_depth_chart.pdf

They have many Sr./Jr. OL/DL and secondary. They have good size.

BG beat them by holding Pohl to 100+ yds fewer through the air than his avg vs. Mich & La-Laf.  Just 199 yds passing; and only 97 yds for Akron rushing, just about their average.  We need to shut him down the same way next week.  Good pass rush would help, but the DBs need to have a really good game.  No TOs for either team in their game today, so they just played tight D.  Pohl had an ok completion % (about 60%) but he was getting only about 5 yds a pass; Johnson had nearly twice that.

Two years ago this game turned our season around.  We had lost three out of four, including two straight at Buffalo by one and the home game vs BSU by three.  We went up there and beat them by 17, then won the next four to win the division.  Not the same situation here, of course, but we need to get off to a good start in the MAC.

Looks like the Zips open up the week as a 6 point favorite according to ESPN.   Is this right???/

At 1-3 this seems to be strange odds.  Considering the Bobcats at 3-1 beat two very good teams in Marshall and North Texas.

Feeling a little better.  I noticed a few other odds makers have the Bobcats as 6 point favorites.

This will be a good Zips team we face this year.   Hopefully the week off will not result in a sluggish start...

Per Arkley tweet - Lucas Powell, Keith Moore, Mark Smith, Aaron Macer, and Landon Smith all practicing today.

Moore definitely playing Saturday. It's hoped that Prior and McGrath will be ready, but tracking their progress.

I have to imagine they have that backward. I do see that it lists Akron as the favorite for one listing but the other four show Ohio. All are either 6 or 6.5 points.

It'll be interesting to see how we come out of the gates coming off of a bye week and a game against Austin Peay.  I think we can knock them out early if we get up a couple scores quickly.

Last year we struggled in the first quarter.  But except for the L'ville game, that hasn't been the case this season.  We've scored on our first possession in each of the last three games and never trailed in those games.  I hope it carries into this week.  I'm sure Akron is looking to get the early knockout too.  That was their plan last week, but it didn't hold up on the road.

Game notes are up. Some of the young offensive linemen graded out very well against Peay, Particulary impressive are the grades for true Freshman Durrell Wood. I expect we'll see a lot more of him at RG, especially since I don't expect we'll see Johnson back soon.

Also, in other news, back to practice now are Keith Moore, Powell, Mark Smith, Landon Smith, and Aaron Macer. That gets Ohio back down to 5 starters missing (Dovell, Lechner, Johnson, McGrath, and Grady). The big problem area continues to be the offensive line, where the younger players keep improving, but Ohio isn't to the point where it is racking up rushing yards like it should yet.

And O$U vs Wisconsin would not have gotten the rushing yards they should if Braxton Miller hadn't run as often as he did.  No worry about a top five ranked team losing their QB, run that kid whenever you need yards.  Yet Ohio's dual threat QB's total designed runs are less than 2 per game.  Would the offensive line benefit from running the offense the way a pistol one back set is designed to operate?

When designed QB draws and keepers off the read are included in future stats and the run yards are lacking, than I'll agree with you that the offensive line isn't helping Ohio rack up the rushing yards.  I wanna see the fastest offensive threat crusing down field against the Zips on Saturday and then see the giant holes that open for the backs once the Defense can no longer key on a pass or a handoff.

I'm not sure how much its worth, but several of these guys are listed on the depth chart, including Prior, Powell and Moore. For Moore, it notes he returns to the lineup after missing three games. Barber, Grady and Macer also are on the depth chart.

I'm not sure what's going on. Last year, I thought Tettleton stopped running due to injury. Now, Ohio is forced to bring Vick in if they want QB runs. I looked at MAC QBs net rush attempts (rush attempts - sacks). Tettleton has third fewest. Without the QB running, seems like the OL has its hands full.

  Rush attempts Sacks Net rushes
Lynch 77 3 74
Boucher 52 11 41
Reardon 47 8 39
Johnson 40 12 28
Pohl 24 5 19
Doyle 20 3 17
Van Tubbergen 18 7 11
Wenning 16 7 9
Benz 22 14 8
Owens 10 3 7
Tettleton 8 3 5
Licata 10 6 4
Rush 12 10 2

It is my belief (read hope) that Frank has been holding back on the mobile Tyler until the MAC season.  We'll see this weekend.  I certainly hope we see a lot of hurry-up, as Akron's D-line gets thin pretty quick.

I'd like to see us run more outside stuff with Beau.  The one off-tackle play vs Peay -- where Tyler flipped it to Beau and he ran off-tackle right -- went for eight yards, which was about Beau's longest run of the day.  The stuff hasn't been there inside for him, so more outside stuff would be in order.

I agree and intended to mention that as well.  Would like to see us run wide - it certainly would surprise teams that have watched our film so far.

Agree with many points including to see the real "Mobile" TT running plays and quick pitch to BB outside. I guess this will be one of those games where I disagree with the odds makers. We are down to -5 which is crazy to me. Then again, that is why I never bet except for euchre :)

Nice to see the OL keeping the sacks low so far this season.  Akron has a pretty good sack pack so this will be a very good test for the lads up front.

TT is best when he lets it rip.  Vick can play so injury to TT (not likely to happen) isn't a mortal blow.  Bring it, TT!

Seems to me that TT is best when he keeps his feet moving.  If there's pressure and he's flat-footed, not so good.
