Traveled the Nelsonville bypass today for the first time and it and the new 70 mph speed limit cuts the time to Columbus by 6 to 8 minutes off of a regular Tuesday morning north bound drive.  And speaking of Nelsonville, there is a great show Saturday night after the game at Stuart's Opera House - Grassinine, McGuffey Lane and Jonathan Edwards.

Everyone should support Nelsonville in any way possible. I love that little town - and there are many great events happening in that city.

What is the record for driving from 70 to East State Street on 33? Safely following the speed limit, of course.

I've seen crazier things happen.

I made it from Rich/Towne Streets to State Street in 1 hour 15 minutes.

After the bypass was finished?

I can confirm this time.  Mine was a little under 1hr 15 min from State street to the 70/71 interchange.  with 2 red light stops along the way.  I normally stayed 5mph above the speed limit before the 70mph signs were put up.  Now I pretty much stay at 70mph about 70% of the way.

I probably saved around 15-20 minutes all of that considered.

1 hr 15 min Convo to I-275 & E Main. After a weeknight game, got lucky w/the lights, before either part Nelsonville bypass, avg 5 MPH above speed limit (never get pulled over doing that). I expect to get Real close to an hour even on weeknight trips back now

I made it from Parkersburg, WV to the 33/270 interchange in 1 hr 25 mins Friday night. I think it was around 55 minutes from Athens to 270. It was downright dreamy.

I'm assuming state troopers are swarming that area right now?

I know somebody in Athens (not exactly sure where in Athens) who said it took him 58 minutes to get to 270 so that sounds like a pretty accurate estimate.

I was in school when the southern portion of the Lancaster bypass opened. I'm pretty sure that for the first 6 months it was open it wasn't included in the State Highway Patrol's rotation...made GREAT time on the portion from OH-22 to where it merged back up with mainline OH-33

New personal record after the Marshall game. Peden to Youngstown (Canfield, actually)  2 hours and 39 minutes. Late game and no traffic. Via 50 to 77 near Parkersburg, 77 to Canton, etc.

That will be a great concert as we old-timers know.

Woah. How fast were you going on 77? It usually took me around 3 hours, 15 minutes to go Athens to Youngstown (Boardman).

I agree.  It takes me 2:50 from Akron (near Blossom Music Center) to Richland Ave.  Y-town has to be another 20-30 minutes minimum.  Also, I've clocked the "old" Marietta route ( "Lower Salem" exit off I-77) vs. the Parkersburg route and the old route is 8 minutes faster.

I drove from Athens to Colorado Springs in 21 hours and 45 minutes, but I hit a light in Gallipolis so that slowed me down.

You do want to avoid going 682 from the Plains into town or vice versa....There is construction on the bridge between railroad tracks and traffic light that will slow you down on a normal morning 6-10 minutes.

Man you were heading the wrong direction.

And SBH, the Parkersburg bypass actually takes me 6 minutes less.  Drove the old route for 25+ years on a weekly basis but agreed, some folks on her should signup for NASCAR.

Late night Friday--at about 11PM former members of SOM jam with jazz/swing music at Casa

The west section out closest to the sidewalk allows for conversation and music while the other areas are jammed to listen to the performance.

Where are most folks taking in the parade?  Speaking of the parade, has anyone ever come across a ranking of homecoming festivities at various campuses?

You are too kind, Allan.  695 resembles my late Uncle Valdi who believed the gas pedal had two positions: ON and OFF.  And, ON was when the pedal was to metal.  Drove with him once from Minneapolis to Lake Itasca.  Boy was that a ride!  He was stopped once by a state trooper on the way, but was let off because he was a VIP and well known in that state.

"Drove" with him? You had the wheel I assume?

And BTW -I have been to Lake Itasca! One of those defining moments in life. Get there after driving through the middle of nowhere - for hours - and hours (it seemed) - in the '68 Chevy Biscayne station wagon - no air conditioning - in the middle of July. Six people in the car (parents and 4 kids) - on "family" vacation. Mom & dad want to see, and the kids to see.....the source of the great Mississippi River. Get there - briefly look at briefly worded Historical Marker - in what ends up an Extremely less than overwhelmingly scenic and beautiful setting, and take "Family" pic of the what was supposed to be a monumental life experience...........

I have always had a greater appreciation of Bob Dylan (and his Minnesota roots/experience) because of that pretty much insufferable excursion.............
