Ohio has been on a tremendous run since 2009, averaging 9 wins a season for the last 4 seasons. Even with today's setback a 9 win season is still a possibility. These types of losses are frustrating, but as history has shown, even during one of Ohio's most prolific eras an annual bad loss is not uncommon. I like to think of it as a way for us older fans who spent decades drowning in the agony of defeat to be reminded of where we came from. So think of today as just the annual kick below the belt, for old time's sake. The homecoming loss to CMU in 2013 can now be added to these mind numbing losses during our recent glory years-

10/27/12- L 23-20 @ Miami, a 7-0 and ranked Ohio team loses to a 3-4 Miami team whose only other wins that season were against Akron, UMass and FCS. Miami is 0-10 and counting since.

10/8/11- L 38-37 @ Buffalo, a 4-1 Ohio team loses to a 1-4 Buffalo team whose only other wins that season were against Akron and FCS.
10/15/11- L 23-20 v Ball State, a 4-2 Ohio team loses to a 3-3 Ball State team at Homecoming. The Cardinals would finish the season 6-6.

11/26/10- L 28-6 @ Kent State, an 8-3 Ohio loses to a 4-7 Kent State team on the last day of the season. Ohio wins and they're in Detroit. Instead, Miami gets to go. Ohio had more wins than the 3 other MAC teams Kent beat combined.

10/24/09- L 20-11 v Kent State, Ohio was undefeated in MAC play and chasing an also undefeated Temple team when they Bobcats lost at home to a Kent State team that would finish MAC play 4-4.

We survived most of those, we'll survive this one too. If history is any indication, this loss will be a head scratcher, but not a season ender.

On to Ypsilanti.

MY STATE. MY TEAM.

Right now, a history of us tanking is not balm.

Maybe by Tuesday or Thursday that message will resonate.

But probably not.

I get it. I do remember the BAD old days. But this one still hurts. I won't say anything negative about the team because I know they wanted to win as much as I did. I just feel so bad. This is the nature of the MAC. Better Central than someone on our side of the division. Maybe this is the wake-up call we needed. My Dad from Z-ville OHIO asked me this morning, " Do you really think this team you are playing (OSU fan) is as bad as they (C-Dispatch) think? I told him I didn't think so. In the series vs CMU - they have owned us. I'll get over it, but I'm still bleeding green.

Agreed.  Although we should win all the games against the lower tier, the fact is that there generally isn't a whole lot of difference between the top and bottom of the MAC -- just a handful of players and the coaching usually makes all the difference.  Every year, nearly every good MAC team loses a game it shouldn't.  Today's loss isn't the end of life as we know it.  It just makes it more difficult to get to nine wins.  We still need to win the "should win" games (EMU, Fiami & UMass), but now we need to beat two of the other three instead of just one.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.
