Participation report showed both Landon Smith and Mario Dovell playing against Akron. Was this an error?

Also, Anthony Talbert had a knee injury versus Akron, so another TE is out. We may see Mason Morgan lose his redshirt, per Arkley.

Russ & Rob credited Dovell with a tackle on kick coverage, which didn't make any sense to me. But if the participation report has it too, maybe it was right.

He played yesterday. I know he was thrown the ball at least once, but did not make the catch.

I remember seeing Landon blocking downfield on a play.  I sort of remember seeing Dovell, but could be mistaken.

Per Arkley's AM Blog, "There was one error on the official participation report as Ohio WR Mario Dovell did not dress for the game but was credited for two tackles. Those tackles should instead be given to freshman CB Dyquan Stewart, who was wearing No. 19 on Saturday."

That makes more sense.

I also see that Vick had a knee injury.  I hope it's not serious - Ohio doesn't have a lot of depth at QB.

This game has all the makings of the traditional "trap" game.   CMU is too good a program to take lightly, no matter what the on-field results have been.  At the same time, we are coming off a win that  "showed" a lot of people that the real OHIO is starting to emerge.  Don't believe any of it.  Even a one point win at home against the Chips will be a good win.

I'll take any win, but if we win by 1, at home, on homecoming, over this Chips team, I will be very very worried about the rest of the season. That would be a big step back. I'd say we're about due for the offense to light someone  up and this will be more similar to the 2000 game in Grobe's last year.

Something to think about. Eight sacks vs Akron.  Coach Williams should show his men the chart below.
Hopefully Ohio can stop the run enough to create passing situations and then, "Hello!!!!"

  Northern Illinois 5 3 17
  Toledo 6 3 8
4. Ohio 5 4 37
5. Buffalo 5 6 29

  Kent State 6 8 56
  Western Michigan 6 8 60

10. Miami 5 15 120
  Bowling Green 6 15 73
12. Eastern Michigan 5 17 86
13. Central Michigan 6 18 108

A little more.

I don't see this as a trap at all.  Akron wasn't that big of a game and CMU is the best team we face the rest of this month, which isn't saying much.  Our guys should be focused on them.  True, they're at or near the bottom of all the major statistical categories -- offensively and defensively -- but it's not like we're looking past them to EMU.  If anything, Akron probably gave our defense some much-needed swagger to take into a game vs a freshman QB who has thrown two more picks than TDs, an offensive line that's 123rd in the nation in sacks allowed and a rushing offense that's averaging only 120 yds/game.

During the NIU-Kent game, Time Warner was running promos saying they were televising our game against CMU. It's listed on the program guide as starting at 3:30 but kickoff is at 2. Time Warner didn't join Kent's game until the end of the first quarter because of what they said were technical problems.

Agreed. The team is just hitting its stride. I would expect them to be on their game this weekend.

Ohio is not going to be looking beyond CMU to think about EMU. They will be focused on CMU, most definitely. Solich is now 1-4 against CMU, and Ohio has an all-time record of 5-21-2 against them, Ohio's worst record against any MAC foe, by far. I'm sure Ohio won't take them lightly. It's time for some payback, I think.

Another reason this game is important - a win here will bring Ohio's all time win-loss record to 529-530-48, I believe. Ohio should end the year with over .500 all time, for the first time in awhile.

The Chips have a returning 1500 yd rusher who had 150 last week and they pulled 4 sacks last week.  The scenario Ohio must avoid is falling behind and getting into too many passing situations.  This would be a great week for Big Jon to be 100% and Ohio's running game to get on track early.  I don't see a high scoring game, just old fashioned "Run the ball, Stop the run, Win the game." Two Ohio RBs over 100 yds would be sweet.

The two things they do well are avoiding penalties (they avg 3.67/game, 12th in D1A and 1st in the MAC) and tackling for loss (7.2/game, 26th in D1A and 1st in the MAC).  But we're also best in the MAC in avoiding tackles for loss -- only 3.6/game -- so that should cancel out one of their strengths.

I was concerned last week because Akron had looked good vs Mich and La-Laf and in the first half vs BG.  CMU, tho, has really been close in only one game against a good D1A team: UNLV (3-2).  They were blown out by Mich, Toledo & NC St.  I don't put many games in the "should win" category, but this is one I will.  We looked extremely good last week, and CMU isn't that much better than Akron.  We should win this one.

And he takes one at the Wolverines, "accidentally" referring to CMU as Michigan.

There are a number of disputed games in the ancient history. In any case, I took my data from this database that shows Ohio with a starting record of 524-529-48,and thus at 528-530-48 right now. I can find some other online databases that have still different historical data for Ohio.

Edit - Here's another online database. It shows that Ohio began the year at 525-536-46, and is thus 529-537-46 now.

Examples of disputed games:
11-13-1896 - Marriatta College claims victory 22-6 in a game at Athens. Ohio records no game.
10-1-1898 - Game versus CIncinnati, recorded at 0-12 loss, or as a 12-12 tie.

I know there are some games where Ohio claim they won, and the foe's records show they won, but I haven't looked at this stuff for awhile. As I recall, all disputed games were before 1930, and most were before 1900.
