Great weather forecast, Homecoming, 4 game winning streak, 2:00 game start?

Certainly a good shot, I'd think. Record is 25,893 at New Mexico State last year. Not sure that many more tickets could be sold or students could be admitted...but I'd have to think we'll be in the ballpark.

It depends on the "walk-up" crowd. I am told that we get a large walk-up crowd on special weekends like homecoming.
I hope they are loud and stay for the whole game.

I think it was a record - quietest 24,000 people I ever saw (until it was Very late in the game).

We don't need a new stadium - we need 1,000 fans who know what home field advantage means................

Exactly on the new stadium or expansion.  When we are not turning people away, that I could see, no need for the extra seating especially when the student side still leaves after half.  Also for everyone that wants to bring in better teams, we don't seem to be able to beat the ones we play now.  So let's try to be dominate in the MAC before we play with the big boys.

Is there a better argument for beer in the stadium?  Open it up for certain sections.  Say everything north of the north 20 yard line.  Between the north 20 and the 50 is a buffer zone (band?).  South 50 yards and victory hill can be billed as the buffer [EDIT: meant to say: FAMILY] zone.

Enforce the heck out of it or, perhaps, only sell it in the stands, not at any concessions on the concourse.  Make that a very noisy end of the stadium which can provide the lead for the other fans.

Watching BGSU @ Miss St. now.. Miss St isn't much if any better than a MAC team, but they have home field advantage with knowledgeable and noisy fans.

It's a culture thing. The game is purely a social event for the vast majority of those that attend. VERY few are like us die-hards.

The "average" fan at one of OUr games:
- Could name 2-3 players, mainly guys like Tettleton, Beau, etc.
- Doesn't ever travel to the road games
- Doesn't listen to us on the radio
- Might occasionally tune into TV, but only for ESPN/ESPN2...not Time Warner channel 5,000

On a scale of 1-10, most of us are an 8/9/10 in terms of our investment to the team. We're ticked when they lose, it ruins our day. The average fan in Peden is about a 2/3/4. Sure, they want to see us win...but if we lose, no biggie. They'll proceed with their day, tailgate, go uptown and still have fun.

Is this a bad thing? No...but something we all need to recognize. At Mississippi State, many of their fans are 8/9/10's when it comes to investment. In order to fill our stadium, we need the 2/3/4's and probably always will. Our athletic department actively markets and sells to these sort of fans and alumni to fill the seats. When we get record crowds, more of them come. That's simply the reality of our place in the college football landscape.

Agree with catfan. Our fans are a different breed indeed. I don't get it. We have everything needed for a great football atmosphere, yet people leave at halftime when the game is still in doubt. I give credit to the community at large - they seem to be coming out for the Bobcats. Maybe the band should play to the opposite side of the field. That's where the real fans seem to be. I don't want to take anything away from the loyal - great O Zone type fans because they are great, but the others are just not sports fans - they are party (me, me) fans.

Go Bobcats!

It's not just us.  According to CBS, this pic was taken during the 4th qtr of the TCU-Kansas game, with the score 24-17 -- there was at least 2:34 left because that's when TCU kicked a FG and won 27-17 (announced crowd: 41,000+):

Everything except we bring a real stunner poor performance in front of a large homecoming crowd.  That is exactly why yesterday was such a HUGE setback--because a solid W might have fired up the faithful into seeing that 'we got something going right here.'

And, we desperately need better in-stadium video. The existing screen is too small and often does not show replays. Today's football fans are used to watching on TV where you can evaluate every play live, and then again once or twice in replay. That is especially important on good and/or controversial plays. As it is, you normally do not see a replay at all, and when you do, it is too small to see.

That impacts the game-day atmosphere, and fans are less able to "get into" the game.

Uh - I disagree. If maximizing home field advantage, increasing opportunities to win, having more fun, consistently and exponentially building base of $ support, etc. matter at all.

So are you arguing that you'd rather have empty seats than have them full of casual students/fans??

No. "Casual" fans don't help build long term sustainable success. Take for instance, the MAC in general...................

Perhaps. But I'd say that we have more casual fans/alumni than the average MAC school. Most of them can't pay people to get to a football game. We've been gradually growing our crowds/fanbase every year. I'd rather have 24,000 at the game (with 8,000 casual observers) than 14,000 die-hards. Just my 2 cents though...

Well, I'd honestly be surprised if we had more than 500 "hard core" fans.

Even with 7 home games each season, I don't think we'll fund a 20MM athletic budget from that....

I mean, I can sneak a thousand or two past the wife, but I think she'd notice 40K wasn't where she left it.

Well - as posited on another thread - maybe we have "peaked". Might as well just go ahead and put the hatchet to that new/expand stadium talk..............
