This is not a post to bash TT. For the most part, I like his game. He is a game manager and an athlete. The best we have had & his accomplishments should not be overlooked.
This is a post looking toward the future....we need to get a qb. Someone who has the ability to change the game & make everyone around him better. Accountability, respect & toughness. Call it wishful thinking, but I want the next Big Ben / Joe Flacco to come out of OU.  I always see this talk about how bad the coaching is....the play calling. There is a classic line, "It's not the X's and O's, it's the Jimmys and Joes." You need players to execute. Let's not get it twisted, these are still D1 coaches calling the plays and don't think for a second if it's not at OU it will be somewhere else.
Just a thought as I watch this game vs. Eastern....

I agree 100%, obviously Ohio can't recruit the kind of QB every other MAC team seems to put on the field against us every week. The EMU QB is eating us alive so Fiami has a chance. I posted about this last week that until we get a QB that's outstanding we won't win a MAC championship. How hard is it to get a 6'3" 220-230 lb QB since every other MAC score seems to do it. 2009, 2010, 2011 MAC champions all had big QB's that got drafted in the NFL.

Duckworth looks capable? I know he is missing his senior season, but he is a three star based entirely on his junior season and before with good size, like 6'3" and 200+? Higher ranking than TT coming out and TT had an injury too, so who knows? What if Duckworth would have ended up a 4 star or 5 star if he could play this year? Also, Vick looks like he'll be a Chuckie Keeton type, and Sprague seems very capable as a 2nd string guy who wouldn't be a liability stepping in for an injured QB. I don't think the QB situation is as dire as some think. We aren't in risk of being Maryland and starting a linebacker at qb

The EMU QB who was 12/22 for 151 and threw 2 int's then got benched?

Meanwhile Tettleton was 23/30 for 375 yards and 4 td's. Lets bench him!

I like Sprague.  He reminds me of a young Tyler Tettleton.

A healthy Vick and a more experienced Sprague will do well next year.

I share your frustration.  The "Read Option" seems a bit of a misnomer right now because the QB seems reluctant to consider the option part.  I have to believe he is limited due to injury.  He did have a few nice runs today but he still doesnt seem 100% to me...not quite the quickness.

On the positive, a lot of the plays they run from the read option fake really worked well....be great to see more of it.  Other than the bad throw which resulted in the interception at the end of 1st half, TT did a good job getting it to the open receivers.  And Cochran and Foster are sure nice to have as targets!

I take a lot from the NFL, b/c they are the very best of the very best & I follow the league avidly.... Please tell me where average quarterbacks succeed? And by succeed, I mean win the Super Bowl. (Without a stellar defense)
The position of QB is by far, the most important position on the field. That is why they get paid multi millions at the next next level. This translates directly into college & high school. The touch the ball every offensive play, they should be the best.
Again, no disrespect to TT, Vick, Sprague....they might be good enough to get us to the dance, but who is going to finish with a win in the MAC Championship? Getting there isn't good enough.
I'll admit, I am a young OU fan. I've been around since the Austin Everson days. Great guy. Great character. Checks all the boxes, but the intangible....That IT factor.
We need a Chad Pennington / Byron Leftwich type, hell I'll take a Dan LeFevour in order to get to the next level. I've seen these QBs come and go through the MAC....Nate Davis types. It's time for The Bobcats to get us one, and win the MAC.

I'm a young Cat fan too, and Everson was QB when I was old enough to actually know what was going on for the first time, but the MAC has nobody near the level of the old Marshall players or Ben Roethlisberger anymore. Jordon Lynch is closest. In my opinion, the MAC is more about having the most disciplined and prepared team while limiting mistakes. Untimely mistakes at the CMU game last week is what lost it. Could we have played better otherwise? Yes, but mistakes are what kills. We just need a solid performance at the right time to win the MAC, and I'm not ready to give up on this year's team. The MAC East isn't playing too well overall. BGSU and us are about it. Then the tough task of beating Ball State or NIU is still a possibility

Last year's Super Bowl champ had a fairly average QB. You could probably say the same with the year before. They are QBs in the top half of starters in the league but the bottom of the top half.

I do get what you're saying, though. QB obviously makes more impact that any other single player on the field. I think Ohio's been blessed to have the best one its ever had, although all of the good players around him are an advantage many other former QBs didn't have. I do like what I've seen from the young guys but I'm still skeptical that they are going to be as dynamic as Tettleton has been.

Trust in coach Gdowski. Trust in the whole staff.  At the beginning of the season someone, can't remember who, posted the the current players could never be as good as Harden, Brazill and Dunlop. As the talent level increases at each position it becomes easier for any individual.  JMHO

I have confidence that this staff will add more and better talent at the QB position.  Why?  Because that is what they have done since they have gotten here.  From Everson, to Bower, to Scott, to Jackson, to TT.  Each guy has raised the level at the position, if even by a little bit.  I think it is safe to say, that before this coaching staff, we would have been thrilled to have Vick starting, let alone backing up a record setting QB.  Vick will get his shot next year.  If he does not prove that he can take over (I think he will), we have Windham, Sprague, and Duckworth ready to compete.  Duckworth may in fact be that 6'3'' 220lbs QB that some posters are calling for.  Windham was pretty prolific in HS and will have the chance to throw to his old HS buddy when he gets here.  This coaching staff has built a program, and they have done it by upgrading the most important position on the field.  TT has had that spot locked down for 3 years.  Next year, we will see what the next wave can do.

I agree completely. I'm very optimistic about the future of the QB position because this coaching staff proven they know what they're doing. More than that, they have proven they know how to improve the position.

Didn't Theo break the passing record?

Then Boo?

Then Tyler?

In succession.

Isn't that kind of unheard of at any program (regardless of the uninspiring state of the old record books)?

Most of the credit should be earmarked for Frank and his staff.

Rufus +1...we all like this pistol but I'd take any of the QBs named by Rufus 25 in a minute.  It can be done in the MAC.  I'd just like to see it at OHIO.

Exactly. Tettleton is already #20 in the all time MAC record books for total yards and #1 in efficiency rating this season. The MAC has been in business 65 years and with 6 new QB's a year. He's in the upper 5-10% of all QB's who've played in this league and had several Big XII offers in high school before getting hurt. He's not an NFL first rounder but give respect where its due.

Taking absolutely nothing away from TT and other recent OHIO stellar athletes, it's not far to compare their TOTAL stats with previous total stats.  Back in the day, OHIO typically played 9 or 10 games, today we are talking about 12 games at a minimum and sometimes up to 14.  The fairer comparisons are per-game stats.  The current guys still come out very favorably!

His legal matters have been resoloved. I expect the will rejoin the team at some point, conditioned on his satisfying the terms of his diversion.

Windham MIGHT be back next year. I can't remember the specifics, but basically the charge against him will be expunged if he complies with the terms of his plea deal. The prosecutor admitted Windham was involved in only a single transaction, and was essentially just running an errand for his roommate Fisher.

EDIT: I see L.C. beat me with the details.
