Eight games into our season, our two lines are putting together seasons for the ages. On defense OHIO ranks second nationally in sacks, with 28, one behind leader Clemson. That's 3.5 sacks per game for the defense. On offense, OHIO is ranked 7th in sacks allowed, having given up only 6 all season, an average of 0.75 sacks allowed a game. This is quite unbelievable and impressive. Way to go, OHIO!

The problem with both lines is the run game. The d-line is just full of pass rushers, and the o-line is good, but lacks the size to create holes in bigger lines. Part of the reason there are so few sacks has to do with TT though. He'll get rid of it before he gets sacked

Interesting.  The stats are indeniable.  Facts is facts.  But a leavening of the stats based on having watched our play can lead to insight beyond the pure facts or additional facts which have relevance.  (Avoid selectivity; go for all truth and nothing but the truth.)

Very glad for the extra time to get ready for Buffalo.  They lead the league in rushing defense and interceptions and are second in sacks.  I hope big Jon is well and got to knock the rust off.  The stats showed him starting at RG. If Prior and Sam are back for the Beefs expect Albin to attempt to wear down the Beef's front, old school. Their CBs were 1st and 2nd in the 2012 MAC stats with 5 & 4 Ints respectively.  These teams are very close. They are both well coached.  Last year the Beefs had 30 1st downs rushed for over 300 and lost. Daz had a 100 yd return. Last year Buffalo won the 1st and 3rd Qtrs and Ohio the 2nd and 4th.  Buffalo has Oliver/ Neutz and Mack. Ohio has TT, Beau/Boykin, Foster/Cochran/Waters/Mario and Carrie.  Both teams have good seniors.  I look for Oliver to get his, hope Carrie/Bass can hold down Neutz.

Did you know Ohio actually is third in the MAC in rush defense and has given up the least number of rushing touchdowns of any team in the MAC?

I wouldn't have guessed that here we are in October, and we're done with Saturday games. And day games.

Every coach in the MAC would give his left errrr  ahhhh arm for Ohio's DL problems, Hate to lose Branz/Barber, but, Williams has talent and depth like Ohio has not seen.  Anyone care to guess were this DL will be rated pre-season 2014.  They are so deep they gave up 6'6", 285 lb Haser to the OL.  Problem, we aint got no stinking problems.  Sorry.

Agreed. Basham, Sayles, and Laseak for the next three years? Yes, please.

Really pleased with both lines right now, if we had this kind of production in the past it would have made quite the difference.  Plus at the moment I am fine with a slightly leaky run defense, I'd rather have that then no pass rush like we had in years past.  Because if our offense plays well and give us leads then that means teams have to throw more.  And this year throwing more against us is at your own risk! :)

Last season the Beef led 14-0 til Daz had his runback.  The key as you pointed out is getting ahead. Playing from behind against a strong running team is very hard, though, Ohio was able to turn strong 2nd and 4th qtrs. into a win last year.
