Supposedly Jon Lechner was cleared to play, but didn't play last week. They may be saving him until they feel they really need him. Mark Smith is another lineman not on this list who hasn't played.

Chase Cochran is averaging 22.3 YPC. That's insane. Those are Madden-like numbers.

You are the Miami Defensive Coordinator.  Ohio has a returning 1600 yard rusher you have to load the box against, the MAC's Pass Eff Ldr in TT, Chase averaging 22 per catch and Foster is going to be good for 100-140 with some TDs.  Cover all that and Mr. Waters or Dovell or Hill will be looking for the ball.  Good luck.

Anybody have suggestions on parking this Halloween weekend?  I normally stay at the OU Inn or Baymont and walk to the game.  This week, due to Halloween, I chose Burr Oak to stay away from the madness.  Yes, sure sign I am getting old.

I would recommend parking at the ridges if you do not mind a walk.  I think they also have parking at the fairgrounds this weekend as well.

I just looked this up on ESPN Stats.  That puts him 6th in all of FBS.  Funny thing is that I think 2 ahead of him are from Baylor.   Now that would scare me if I were a D coordinator.

Maybe this is Franks big plan...   We preach run run run but our Receivers are having some success prior to getting into the meat of our schedule.  I would look for teams to be taking notice of the passing success which I hope helps us open up that run game..... Blankenship, Boykin and Patterson may be putting up huge numbers over the next few weeks......

This game has me puzzled.  I can usually find one or two things that stand out as areas where we need to focus on.  But nothing stands out with Fiami.  Their stats are just lousy on both sides of the ball. It's hard to believe Fiami can be that bad.  I guess if there's one thing to be concerned about, it's that last week Boucher went 23/34 for 226 yds vs Akron.  That's about 30% of his 77 completions and about 25% of his 916 passing yds for the season.  They seem to be working into the new spread offense that Bath is installing.  We should be able to handle their running game; their O line is much smaller than we've seen the last two weeks.  But the DBs need to keep up their outstanding play and we need strong pressure from the D line.

I hope you all are right but redhawk holding CMU to fewer points than we yielded to CMU is a concern to me.

Those kinds of comparisons don't bother me that much because each game has its own unique circumstances.  We could also make the comparison that we beat Akron by 40 on the road while Fiami lost to them by 7 at home.  And Mich gave up 24 to Akron while we gave up only 3; I don't think that would be an indication of how we would do against Mich.  I look for trends and Fiami's offense is trending up in their last two losses (they couldn't go down much), albeit against two teams with bad won-loss records.

Spin. If you want to be concerned there are likely numbers you can spin your way.  If you want to feel good find others to spin to feel good.  The point about each game having its own unique circumstances is important.  Week to week teams face coaches with vastly different goals.  Some short term oriented who want to get that big season to gain attention so they might step up.  Some coaches have long term goals that make their approach to every game different.  Lately I have seen a poster calling for a halt of player rotations til the starters get a nice lead.  Others might like to use the rotation of players so the starters might still be strong in the 4th quarter.  Someone was calling out the coaches when they ran the ball on 3rd and about thirty.  Well, on some drives it is better to stop the loss of field position, not risk a sack and further loss of field position, get the team off the field for a bit to calm down and regroup. Like taking a knee before halftime. Comparing tm vs tm scores is misleading as different coaches approach to games make games unique.

There's also the reality that one sees on the field.  Or should.

I apologize for pointing this out to you, Bcat2.

The thing that concerns me most is how our D line gets pushed around by the bigger O lines.  Both CMU's and EMU's O lines are 300 lbs+ across the board and they lit us up for a lot of rushing yds.  Fiami doesn't have that, so we should handle them pretty easily.  But Buffalo, Kent and to some extent BG all have big O lines.  We need to come up with a defensive response to that in the next ten days.

Per the Messenger

Kristoff, who leads Ohio with 46 tackles, said it’s been a frustrating two weeks.

“The way we run our defense, all 11 guys have to do their job. If all 11 guys do their job, the defense works great. If one guy doesn’t do his job, happens to get out of his gap or misses an assignment, that’s when you have a guy shooting down the middle of the field and he goes for 40 yards,” he said.

The normal premise of Ohio's run defense in the past has been to have the defensive line attempt to clog things up and tie up the offensive linemen. That allows the linebackers to flow laterally to the hole, and make the tackle.  That works, but typically gives up 3-4 yard gains. Given that they have asked the defensive line to be more aggressive, they have no doubt shifted defensive thinking for the linebackers and db's to adjust for the aggressive play on the line. I think the explosive plays we've seen are a combination of learning by the coaches and learning by the players as they all adjust. I think they will work it out, hopefully soon.

I think we would almost have to play worse than we did against CMU to lose, but I think it's crucial we set the tone early.  A win here would make their season, so they will be fired up.

I hope we beat the tar out of them, would be satisfied with a close win.  I think we'll do something in the middle, around 38-21.

Based on Miami's struggles this year I believe we can break their will early if we come out and set the tone by a total effort. This approach would once again help us with our confidence level as well as enable more reps for 2nd and 3rd teamers.
In addition I see we have more players back from injury this week which is also a big help.

I can sort of understand coming out flat vs CMU.

I have difficulty understanding coming out flat vs L'ville.

I would never understand coming out flat vs. Fiami.

Get 'em early; get 'em often.

Fiami's last win was last year at home against us.  They've since lost 11 straight.  Let's make it 12.

Wish list for today:

1. No serious injuries.

2. Beat Fiami.

3. Stomp Fiami.

4. Baylor Fiami.
