"Beau up the middle" appears to be working pretty well today...

So you're saying that stats achieved against redhawk have some validity, some reason to see carry over versus teams that actually have won a game?

For instance, how come NIU is up on 21-0 on EMU in the first quarter?

Maybe we can arrange to play no-wins WMU next week and Boykin can get 100 yards on Beau up the middle.

its not so much the stats as the way he's running, more reminiscent of last year. Haven't seen it all year, so yes I'm hopeful this will carry over to next week.

Can't really fault the running backs..  We just don't create holes up the middle.  Unfortunately, I doubt that we're going to start now that we're going to be playing the non-patsy part of our schedule.  If we do start to make the openings up the middle, we'll roll.

True. Hopefully Lechner's return for his second game of the season this week, Johnson's anticipated return next week, and maybe even Priors return for the last 4 will help those holes open up more frequently.

Toledodoes have 154 yards rushing at BG today.

On the post-game interview Solich talked about expanding the outside running game so as to help better the run game.

No, debbie downer, we're saying that Beau (and TT, and Donte Foster, among others) had good days, and should be congratulated for such. Forgive us, oh wise one, for praising them rather than bashing them for having the gall to face off against the team on the schedule today, rather than Alabama and the Chicago Bears.

Monroe, let them heap praise, because next week the same will want people fired.

Sarge, how true...we finally got to the edge some today.  Gives the running game a bit of unpredictability (if that is a word).

Before today, redhawk was giving up over 200 ypg on the ground, at a rate of 4.8 yards per carry.

So, we did reasonably well today.

Put up today's numbers against Beefs and I'll be impressed.

I don't get the 'no standards, everyone gets a trophy, impressed no matter how lousy the opponent' crowd.

Monroe. If the Cats get today's numbers against the Beefs and lose, I guarantee you won't be impressed.  Excuse me, but, what is this BS about "everyone getting a trophy?" There were those two bowl trophies for wins over quality opponents to cap the last two seasons.  Each year for the past three the seniors and coaches have rewarded their fans loyalty with more wins, more wins and more wins.  They have my trust and confidence.  After a 41-16 win; including 300+ yards from the QB, 172 yds at 8.6 per carry from a back, 7 sacks, only 85 rushing allowed I will be enjoying it. I will not be sour about the one play out of 75 that got screwed up.  I will not be calling out the MAC's most efficient and Ohio's first 8,000 yard passer for not running out a fake.  I am confident the coaches will work what needs worked.  They don't need my help.  I trust in the coaches standards.  After what they have achieved at Ohio, I am not so arrogant to believe I know this game better than they.

Monroe, Got Frank, always holds things back in games where we have the upper hand.  I can guarantee that you'll see plays (both on offense and defense) against Beefs that you haven't seen in previous games.  Frank knows which games count and he usually does his best coaching in those games.  Remember our dominance against that team from Philadelphia that came up against us in several late season games thinking they'd roll over our beloved Bobcats.  Remember what happened?  Remember how we came out blazing in our last two bowl games?  Frank's human and makes mistakes, but he knows football and he's leading us to the Promised Land.  He may be like Moses and not be the one who's leading us when we get there, but he has us headed in the right direction.  In Frank We Trust!

Get on the bandwagon, Monroe.  It's going to be a great ride this second half of the season as the injured return, the young guys gain experience and get better, and the coaching gets more intense.  Go OHIO!

'Everyone gets a trophy' is valuing big number performances against horrible teams the same as big numbers against good teams.

Again, my standard is playing well.  If we play well against Beefs or anyone else, I'll so acknowledge.  I thought we did pretty well against NTSU, stupd cow, 'kron.

OCF, of course I know that Coach holds back against lesser opponents and has no interest in winning by 300 points.  But that doesn't explain CMU.  And too many nothing runs up the middle.

Monroe. Thanks for the clarification.  I misunderstood.  Years ago my son played on a soccer team that lost every game. After the last game the coach had trophies for every player.  My boy thanked him politely, but, pitched it into a trash can as we walked to the truck.  He was right to do so.

I am with you about the standard being playing well, I just believe you fail to credit opponents when it is due and discount the performance of Ohio's players I feel deserve better.  I often differ with you on the value of opponent's effort and play.  I often differ with you on the importance of  this wasted time out or that fumbled punt.  In my judgment the good is so far outweighing the bad.  Ohio fans are blessed.  JMHO

Usually when I am tempted to pull out this old saw, I can stifle myself but reading THIS thread overcomes my internal edit function.  So, here goes:

As John Cooper liked to tell his critics before he was fired for reaching "only" 9 wins year after year,  "Their players are on scholarship, too".  To wit, nobody from M%$# laid down on defense.  They played to win.  Same for CMU.  To minimize that, or detract from the effort put forth by the 'Cats on Saturday is to insult both teams.

To my knowledge, none of us is paid to create "news" like the talking heads on ESPN so I don't understand the insistence on "winning" this argument that we aren't good enough to be a top team in OUr conference.

You don't like the way we're playing?  Fine.  Just let the rest of us who are less cognizant of our weaknesses enjoy it a while.  You appear sure that you're going to have the last say when it's over anyway, right?

Maybe you weren't in the stands Saturday when they introduced the 1968 Bobcats who were in town for their 45th reunion?  Maybe the TV people didn't have time for that.  Nevertheless, it made me think that, hopefully,  45 years from now somebody will be in my place applauding the efforts of this team and, by then, the CMU loss will have been long forgotten.

Okay; new rules:

No fan fun critique is allowed at all.
No performance vs. reasonable expectations analysis is allowed.
And, everyone gets a trophy all the time.

Only one reason this would occur 45 years from now - if we win the MAC. If that happens, the CMU loss will surely be forgotten. If it does not, well then.............

Monroe, you're off base here. There is a huge difference between saying "everyone gets a trophy" and saying "we believe this team can get a trophy". Just because we believe they can win doesn't mean you have to believe it, and just because you don't believe it doesn't mean we can't.

As I said in another thread, until such time as this team loses another MAC game, I'm going to keep sipping the green stuff. Here, let me pass you the pitcher. Have a glass.

OK - I'm siding with Monroe here. He has a glass - but it's "half full"......which means he has been sipping away......and eager for a refill.......

OCF has it right up there...to me the key in the next 4 games is INTENSITY...for 60 minutes.  As most of us know there is just too little room for error in the MAC.  Every team has a bunch of "75" players.  Versus CMU ours played like "65"s.  To win the next two on the road and the final two at home we need to be playing above our heads at "85".  We do that and we are Champs.  We don't and we won't be.  it's that simple.  Everyone will give us their best shot, guaranteed.
