I thankfully chose not to watch a minute of the football game but chose instead to watch the basketball team scare the bejeebers out of OSU in the 2nd half.

No, not so much. Two years ago, after we won the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, it looked like we were zooming towards a MAC championship. Well, the results are in. We can beat up the MAC pansies, but can't play with the good teams in the MAC. That was just embarrassing. Hopefully, Kent and UMass are "pansy" enough for the Cats. Even at 8-4, getting to a bowl seems difficult. As mad I am, I'll still hold out hope for that. With only three primary bowl tie-ins, It's always good, as a MAC team, to make a bowl game.

My optimism for football is over and I have been rooting for OHIO since 1966!  I thought this staff would bring us a MACC, especially within 9 years.  Instead, it has proven incapable of getting the players necessary to be a Champion.  And, if this staff can't do it, I seriously wonder if it can be done here.  For football, there seems to be a structural problem.  Obviously we will not be in the BCS mix.  Obviously, the MAC does us no favors.  I seriously think discussion about going to the Missouri Valley should start.  The basketball program would be elevated to where it has proven it belongs.  And, the football program would still be lucky to win a championship.

Sorry, that is just reality.

Please don't start that crap about going FCS/DIAA! We can't even win the MAC.

How is the MAC our problem? Hasn't held back other programs that consistently win.

Billy, the MAC is now a joke conference.  Look at FB, 6 of the worst 10-15 teams are in the MAC.  Much of the MVC would beat the crap out of MAC FB teams.  In BB the MAC has slipped 7-10 rungs down the ladder over the last decade.  Our BB program deserves the move.  FB appears to be as good as it will ever get right now and that is MVC level.  And, that from an OHIO FB and BB fan for over 45 years.  It's time to stop kidding ourselves and move on.

Why don't we just drop athletics completely. It is not like the basketball team is a top 25 program either.

Dudes, my point is BB can compete and reach the Sweet Sixteen.  It's easier to get 5-8 good players.  FB will never do that, period.  We will never have 30 4 star recruits.  We are what we are.  And, we spend a lot of money on a program that is MVC level (being generous after tonight) anyway.  So, why not join em and give BB the home it deserves?

That is because we are located in Ohio not in Missouri. We are 7 hour drive further east than any of the teams. It makes perfect sense to be in a Cleveland based league.

+1. We can not win one title in 40+ years, we have the largest budget, the highest paid coaches, and you feel it's the Conference that's holding us back? Maybe we should win a title or two before you look down your nose at anything.

Agreed.  I have never seen the point in saying how bad the MAC is when we can't win it; it's insanity.  We are where we belong.  Point me to anything that says we deserve better than the MAC.  Heck, they deserve more from us considering the expectations the last two years.

Personally, I just think the path towards a big time basketball program is being blocked by the money soaked up by competing at the FBS level in football. We got left out of conference realignment. The big conference schools are on their way to creating their own subdivision, and we'll be left in an odd college football purgatory where we're not eligible for either of the national championships that are awarded. What's the point of continuing to throw money into that? Drop down a level, throw the additional resources into the basketball program and make an honest effort to become the next Butler, VCU, Gonzaga, Creighton, or Wichita State.

Maybe basketball is keeping us from being a national player in football?

Nope, the structure of college football is doing that all by itself.

HA...yeah ok... and the reason they went from grass to turf at Pedan is because the Marching Band ruined the field each season.

I hate to say it but look at the coaches here guys.  You can see it in Tettleton's actions after running plays, I believe starting in the Central Michigan game.   That is right about where we start this 3 straight hand offs crap.  Watch him look back at the side lines with his arms straight out basically saying "Really?".

I know they are young in a lot of areas, but I think the inexperience of our O-Line is where we are having the issues.  I think we are seeing that time of the season where are O-line is just spent.  Ok yes we have played very good defenses (MAC Standards, but BG is very well ranked defensively in the country)  the last 2 weeks, but come on.

Not to mention our defense seems to have just shutoff halfway through the CMU game and taken the rest of the semester off.

I put it on the coaches.

The good news is the construction crew wont have to worry about hurrying to finish the IPF for bowl practice.

Maybe an incentive should be to finish the IPF but not let them use it until we win a MAC championship.
