Last night was the first time this season I've had the chance to watch much of Baylor. Very impressive and very fun to watch. Some thoughts:

(1) SPEED. Especially on defense. Baylor's D linemen didn't appear to be huge, but they got some great penetration on both runs and passes with a quick first step, and the DBs and LBs really kept Oklahoma's receivers in check.
(2) Attitude. Aggressive but under control (for the most part.....there were a lot of penalties in the game). And they didn't get frustrated after only scoring 3 points in the first quarter.
(3) Comparing their offense to the one I'm most familiar with (OUrs), the differences are very stark. Baylor really stretches the defense, vertically and laterally. We do a pretty good job stretching vertically, but we keep our WRs in much closer and our line splits are tighter. And their bread-and-butter read option run is the inverse of ours.....the read is with the RB to the outside, with the QB option to keep it up the middle.

I think I'm gonna pull for Baylor vs. Alabama in the BCSNCG, since I would really like to see that offense versus one of the premier defenses in the country. Baylor vs. Stanford would be fun too, especially after the way Stanford's D dominated Oregon last night (if you didn't watch that game, don't be fooled by the 26-20 final score. Oregon needed a FG block return for a touchdown, a recovered onside kick and a touchdown with under 2 minutes to go and no time outs to get it that close.)

What impressed me most about Baylor was not just how well their defense played, but how well it played against power looks, against the run (generally) and in goal line situations. From about the last 2 minutes of the first quarter through the first 3 minutes of the 2nd quarter, the Oklahoma offense had SEVEN snaps from inside the baylor 10 yard line between two different trips to the Baylor goal line and their offense only came away with a field goal (assuming I'm reading the ESPN play-by-play correctly).

Program turnaround.  Significantly one star player--RGriffin.

We need star.

I don't doubt RG3 is a big reason for their turnaround, but all of the credit in the world needs to go to Art Briles. That dude can flat out coach. As soon as RG3 left, Nick Florence was just as productive. And even this year, Bryce Petty is doing work. Three consecutive years, three different QBs, yet same explosive offense.

You're right. We do.

I'm sure all of the coaches doing the recruiting could benefit from this nugget of wisdom.
