Just saw on Mike and Mike that Incognito was first suspended by Frank Sollich in 2003, while at Nebraska.

Good to see the Dolphins taking action.

Brady Hoke, however, is in denial about Taylor Lewan's on-field actions.  ESPN says he doesn't feel the need to take further action, even though Lewan hurts his team with a lot of after-the-whistle crap.  I watched that game and he was pretty much out of control; there were several other times he did stuff after the whistle but didn't get flagged.  The B10 front office needs to step in on this one.

Well, with the way the rest of the O-line was blocking that game, they may need some more of that...

Not condoning what Richie did, just wondering why Martin didn't take matters into his own hands so to speak. Other reports are saying the coach was not told about this until Martin left the team. Kind of bizarre other team mates didn't come to Martins defense as well if racial slurs were involved. Just wondering.

After thinking about this a bit...

I think Mr. Martin might be super-genius material.

Regardless of what all the idiots in the locker room, or the talking idiots on radio, or the pontificating idiots on TV say, an NFL team is a corporation in the United States of America.

And that means that it is governed by *all* of the work-place laws that cover most of us.

Things like
  • sexual harassment
  • age discrimination
  • racial discrimination
  • hostile workplace
whatever else you can think of... these all apply to the teams

And it applies to *ALL* of the team's employees, too.

So it will apply in the LOCKER ROOM, regardless of what a bunch of testosterone fueled guys think.

If Mr. Martin is as smart as I think he is, every single comment about he should have "manned up", "punched him in the nose", or whatever, reinforces the fact that everyone else is COMPLICIT in tolerating and supporting the hostile workplace environment.

It's telling, too, that he left the team after he spoke to the General Manager, who told him to basically punch Incognito in the nose, to deal with it.

You can argue he never went to the coach.

So what?  He went to the team's General Manager... the #1 manager in the entire organization.

Who, instead of treating it seriously and doing the things I'm trained on constantly, simply told him to "man up".

Wow.

There is a fortune in money waiting for Mr. Martin.

Sure, there will be people who don't understand.  They'll call him a "wussy" or worse.

Big deal.  Mr. Martin will care about what they say about him not one whit while he sits on his private island near Bimini.

Because, I'm telling you, this macho culture that we've heard about over the last week or so, with hazing rituals, forced purchases of meals/vacations/whatever...

I can tell you if you tried to pull *ANY* of that crap, at any other $500MM business in America, and a co-worker reported it, your ass would be looking for a job tomorrow.

GO BOBCATS!

It's called a "hostile work environment" based on race/ethnicity, and there ain't no exemption for sports teams on this one.

Ignorance is everywhere on this.

Standing in the Bookstore before today's game I overheard a dad talking to his kid. "yeah a bunch of us guys at work had a big laugh over that one. How does a 310 lb lineman get bullied?"

I wanted to shake the dude. (hewas bigger than me so it should have been ok I guess)

Got to love how Joe Q Public figures out how not to see different sides of the story. Maybe Martin is right or maybe the other side is right. I was not there but I am willing to see both sides before proclaiiming things in public.

I am not against c ertain rites of passage and team building but there seems to be a whiff of something that is just not right here. I have told my kid to man up in some cases when I thought it was a right of acceptance and somewhat harmless but physical and mental intimidation and flat out bad behaviour is in need of going bye bye in most locker rooms these days. I got a long list of punks that made my life hell for a long time. I get the concept .  FOr this dad to propogate that concept loudly in a bookstore amazes me Hope most of us here are somewhat more enlightened.
