Sad. What is it about shooting incidents right before an Ohio-EMU game?

Are we certain they won't postpone the game?

This article is questioning weather the game will be played tomorrow.

http://www.mlive.com/eagles/index.ssf/2013/10/eastern_michigan_vs_ohio_game.html

Jason Arkley did tweet that the team is on the bus headed to Ypsilanti.

It's currently the top story on the Chicago Tribune: http://www.chicagotribune.com/ and provides more details about him as a person.

So what if they did this instead keeping in mind that important considerations like MAC divisional championships and bowl berths are on the line not to mention fans travel plans and whatever exposure has been scheduled.

The OU team is already there.  Rather than play the game, why not send out pairs of players tomorrow in their jerseys, one from EMU and one from OU, going door to door throughout the city talking to folks about gun violence and this tragic situation.  If you want to honor this young man, do something that might prevent it from happening again.  Can you imagine the media coverage that this would generate.

So long as EMU forfeits first...and provides a police escort and for our players and a...actually, why exactly should the OHIO players be punished, by being sent door to door in Michigan, to talk to folks about "gun violence" (rather than other kinds of violence? crime in general? the importance of contacting the police rather than intervene in a dangerous situation? the importance of either living in safe neighborhoods or locking your doors and traveling in groups to lessen the risks of robbery?) to talk about something that happened to an EMU player in Ypsilanti in his apartment building?

That's a great idea.

But let's do it AFTER the game.

You want to take D1 athletes from Ohio, dress them up in football jerseys and send them out into crime riddled Ypsilanti to go knocking on doors like a bunch of Jehovah's Witnesses, preaching about the ills of gun violence with the expectations that they might be able to prevent a tragedy like this from happening again? And you think this would generate positive media coverage?

I wondered what you meant by "crime riddled Ypsilanti", then I read this story from the Ypsi Courier.  The campus area seems to be ok, but there have been three deaths -- which I presume were murders -- off-campus in the past year.  Not sure if they were students or others.  But it's also interesting that the Ypsi police dept didn't bother to send a rep to the community forum they had yesterday.
