Just got an email with this video link from Rod and Deborah McDavis.  Nice touch on a chilly Friday morning:

That is nice and makes me wish I was in Athens.

On a related note that is one plus I suppose on the change to the semester system.  My daughter, a senior @ Ohio, commented last week on how nice Athens looked for Christmas.  In prior years during the quarter system period the majority of students never saw Athens around Christmas.  Now they do.

Uptown is stunningly gorgeous this year.  The only thing that needs changed/eliminated are the lights on top of the tall building next to the dinner.  They are out of place in terms of the lighting and decorating scheme uptown plus they're crooked.

I attended and graduated under the quarter system and lived in Athens all four years.  Have never physically been in Athens in July nor December.  We used to decorate our dorms for Christmas a little bit in November since we wouldn't get the chance otherwise.

I took my official campus visit/tour to a snow covered Athens and fell in love.  I thought that if it could be that beautiful in the dead of winter that it would be great all year long and I was not disappointed.

I was there under the old quarter system when classes didn't start until around Sept 20 and fall quarter exams ended around Dec 20.  It was ok being there during the Christmas season, but it made for a much shorter break with family (usually less than two weeks) and forget about getting a job back home over the holidays.

My wife (also an alum) and I were in town for the basketball game on Saturday.  We were walking uptown and she said the same thing about how nice uptown looked.

I saw the same thing and wondered, in a totally honest, non-sarcastic way:  Is Mrs. McDavis properly referred to as "First Lady"?  I thought that was an honorific reserved for governmental spouses.  E.g. is the wife of the President of Hocking Valley Bank a "First Lady", too?

I like both of the McDavises and feel they are doing excellent work for Olde Ohio.  However, I don't think the First Lady title is appropriate in this context.  I can't remember any previous president's wife who was referred to as such, at least not on a regular basis.  I guess since Mrs. McDavis does receive some kind of a salary for certain specific duties that they had to invent a title to go with the job.  I believe she is the first to have a specific salaried job. I'm not against that, I just didn't like the First Lady title when I first heard it.  I still don't like it alot, but it doesn't grate on my nerves quite like it did at first.
