Vast underdog Auburn played splendidly tonight in a great game.

Auburn lost by a squeaker but their defense attacks (ours is laid back, staid) and their offense has variety (hello two-back sets at times) and is not held back by youth (I think they said that Auburn's o-line starts, at least, a freshman and two juniors).  Auburn's attacking kept them in the game and about had a heavily favored FL State exhausted in the fourth quarter.

Sorry, but I'll say it again:  imagination, smarts and coaching matter.  And are significantly within our control.

[ this is same post as i put on recruiting threads...but it's such a vital topic.  when was last time anyone said after a game on the gridiron that OHIO outcoached the other side?]

Penn State in 2012?  There are many other times, but this one stands out.

The premise of this thread is such a joke. We are who we are, and the season is over. All we can do is keep our chins up and look forward to next season.

Living in the past and whining that we aren't as good as the #2 team in the nation is a silly waste of time.

No one expects us to be the #2 team in the nation.  Expecting us to play well and respectably is reasonable.

So, you have no concern that what has made us 9-9 over the last 18 games, with most of the victories being against really bad teams, may infect the future if we do not change?

You don't think that adopting some of Auburn's approach could improve us?

Really think the premise is a bad one?

Yes, Monroe, it does make a big difference when you have 4 upperclassmen starting on the offensive line. Ohio was supposed to have had that this year, but it didn't work out that way. In 2015, though, Ohio will be back to having the experience that Auburn has, perhaps a bit more.

By the way, I think Ohio out coached East Carolina in the bowl game. For what it's worth,

I'd agree with that. And Marshall and probably North Texas this year also.

I'd include Monroe last year and EMU this year.

Funny, Pete.

I know that it's flog deadhorse.  But I'm stunned by the number here who don't seem to think that we have serious problems.  Yes, as our young players grow, we should get better.  But it wasn't like all of our players were newbies.  A lot of vetereans had significantly lesser years this year than prior years.  And our mental/coaching approach was overall quite mediocre.

9-9 over the last 18 with few good wins and I worry.  So many years with this coaching staff and we're in the bottom half of the MAC East with no MAC title?

Not being worried, upset seems an inappropriate reaction to me.

Some people feel that there are more important things to "worry and be upset about " than the results of the last 18 football games. You go on doing what you do and we'll go on doing what we do.
