After rooting for four teams -- all of whom lost their bowl games -- it's a great feeling to finally be in the "W" column with the Thundering Herd victory 31-20 over Maryland in the Military Bowl.  And, it's nice to know that OHIO beat Marshall on the field this year.  I'm looking for a fourth straight victory over the Herd next fall.

Go Herd (except one special fall day)!
Go OHIO!

Each fall I bleed two shades of green.

I was glad to see the Herd beat Maryland as well. Solid performance.

OTOH...I anticipate the following metrics from Chuck Landon: Marshall beat ECU by 31. ECU beat Ohio by 17. Therefore, Marshall's program is 48 points better than Ohio. You can throw out the three Ohio wins in a row over Marshall. All three were complete flukes.

With Cato coming back, I imagine you guys will be favored to not only win CUSA but maybe get into one of the three "Festivus" bowls.  You'll probably be a double-digit favorite in our game.

I don't know....We'll have to see what happens. The schedule sets up nice nand most everyone is back with the exception of our starting TE "Gator Hoskins". He will be a big loss but we do have two good TE's waiting in the wings that have playing experience.

I liked what I've seen out of Derrius Vick. Is everyone sold on him being the starter next year or do you expect a big QB competition in camp?

I think the "smart money" is on Vick to the starter next year.  He's a good runner as well as a good passer and has good mobility on roll outs.  The third string QB, Sprague, looks pretty promising, also.  He's bigger than Vick and has a very good arm.  He'll probably give Vick a run in spring practice, but I expect Vick to emerge on top.  There's also an incoming freshman (verbal) named Joey Duckworth that seems quite good.  I suspect he'll be redshirted.

While throwing up in my own mouth a little, I was rooting for Marshall as well. In general, I will root for our opponents to do well, and I will root for non-BCS schools against BCS schools.

I was not!  Haha.  I had my "Beat Marshall" rally towel hanging proudly on my car, which happened to be next to the WSAZ crew.  All joking aside, I had a nice conversation with Keith Morehouse and several Marshall fans.  I live in Maryland so I had to pull for the Terps, though.

I will say the Herd fans were MUCH better than Maryland fans, despite being outnumbered 3-1.  They brought a loud 7K to Annapolis, and were into the game the entire time.  I had to "opportunity" to sit right behind the Marshall section and much to the dismay of those around me they stood almost the entire game.  Meanwhile, Maryland (located 30 miles away) could not even sell out their side and it didn't even begin to come near full until halftime.  They had to finish their cocktails, I suppose.

Overall I think it was a great move to change this bowl from RFK to Annapolis, and really hope the Bobcats can find a way into this one.  The town seemed to embrace the event and the venue is outstanding.

I agree that the smart money is on Vick coming into next year.  With regards to Duckworth too, keep in mind, he was out this year for Louisville with a torn ACL.  I think you can say that theres no way he'll be ready to play without a redshirt year.

North Texas blew out UNLV today to finish 9-4.  So Ohio finishes the season with a win over one 10-win FBS team (Marshall) and another 9-win team.

That's probably because it was the closest game to home all year long for them outside of home games or Athens.  Love that C-USA, right?

'tonic, I gather that you're stating facts more than adding color, so don't take this personally....After the 2nd half of the season and our record over the last 18-19 games, there's very little comfort in what NTSU and stupd cow did in their bowl games.  Where we is now is not who we was in those games.

Yes actually. Making about $200k net for our bowl game from ticket revenue and travel reimbursement from out conference (which the Mac doesn't do) + the $5.5 million payout total sharing, not counting half the ticket revenue being added and split. So another $750k check give or take. We lost money in bowl games in the MAC.

On another note, is the MAC going to go winless in bowl season? 0-4, one to go in ball state vs ark state. CUSA is 3-3, 2-2 for returning members, and 1-1 vs bcs.

Hasn't the MAC been guaranteeing some payouts to teams more recently?

Yes, IIRC bowl teams' travel expenses are all reimbursed by the conference before any non-bowl team receives a share of the bowl money.

No doubt, moving the game to Annapolis was a great move. Great place to host a bowl game. Hope to go back there sometime in the future.

That used to be the case with the old CUSA but not any longer with Western Kentucky, Old Dominion, Charlotte and Middle Tennessee on board, All of those schools are withing easy driving distance.
