I dunno. That seems like kind of a dead end job. Why not just enjoy a year off?

Agree. But it could be that coaching is so much a part of Jim's DNA that he isn't ready for time away.

I can think of another job many thought was dead-end that was filled by a winning coach in his 60s about ten years ago. He turned it around.

I don't think UAB has national championship aspirations. I think at this point they'd like to not lose to a miserable Southern Miss team by 35 pts and maybe have their first winning season since '04. There doesn't seem to be that much pressure to perform; the last coach left on his own after a 2-10 season. I'm just not sure his style of play is exciting enough for an SEC-area crowd.

Imagine osu getting to pick who replaced Clawson at BG this year. That's what UAB has to deal with.
