Anyone remember at the beginning of 2013 most of us thought kicking would be one of our major problems. Maybe someone has already posted this, but I thought this was a great video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xmjGe9Gxvk&feature=share Josiah (Albany kid, so really a native) came back from major surgery to have a great year.

I'm surprised that ESPN didn't pick up on his story.  Last year they had something about Eric Herman and his brother in every broadcast.

He's the second coming of Matt Weller.  With luck, we'll have him for two more years.

Eric Herman doesn't have a brother, maybe you are thinking of someone else?

Corey Hasting I think.

Anyone remember a parent coming on and whining about Josiah getting the nod as kicker? The young man had a great year!

Stories might tend to get highlighted, to be more attractive when the team does well.

Here's the thread in question. Perhaps Amicone is a better kicker, perhaps not, but we may never know, He got injured at exactly the wrong time. When Green faltered, Yaz was healthy and Amicone was not. Yaz grabbed the job, and kept it. It's kind of the same as happened at running back in 2012. Boykin may or may not have been better than Beau, but he got hurt, and Beau racked up 1600 yards and put a lock on the job. Luck, in the timing of injuries can be really important.

In any case, congratulations to Yaz for a great season. I hope he has two more just like the last one. His onside kick was the icing on cake (I bet we'll see them try that one again).

Related..vaguely...Watching one of the NFL playoff games last week, right before an obvious onside kicke attempt, the said that he kicker was successful on 3 of 5 in his career so far.  That's an absurdly high percentage.  Then, he converted a few seconds later to go to 4 of 6.  For onside kicks, that's gotta be enough of a statistical sample to be significant.  That's an absurdly high conversion rate.  If he misses his next 20 or 25, it'll still be a pretty awful good conversion rate.

heard that one too. I have a feeling that if he missed the next 10 or so, the coach would forget the good ones. The inside that Ohio made in St Pete was one I'd like to see us try more often. You're think the element of surprise would greatly increase your chance of success on these.

Green had a similar % going on with FGs last season.  He was 3-3 in the 4th qtr.  Unfortunately he was 1-9 in the first three qtrs.

I think we got the one in St Pete because Solich is well-known for conservative, field position type play and it was so out of character.  It might be worth trying again in one of the OOC games (Terd?) just to see if anybody remembers.

Billy the Cat is right on this one and no, I'm not a parent but a close family friend that has seen Amicon in action over the past seven years(youtubemattamicone). Totally agree Yaz was the man of the hour and the season for the Cat's in 13. How can you discount going 12 for 12 and doing all the great things he did this past season. Went to a boat-load of field sessions before , during or after practice and saw Amicon's consistency early on, and.....that's why he got the initial nod when Green faltered. Injuries end, start and some energize a career. His groin, quad and hammy injuries set him back just as Yaz's knees held "him" back from his full potential as well. No sour grapes just a fan with favorites....like you!

Something kind of interesting is that Solich said more than once that Yazdani was not the most consistent kicker in practice but he proved himself in games.
