That is NOT a mini helmet, #1, you do not have visors on a mini-helmet and #2 look at the helmet v. the UPS box behind the helmet for a reference to size.  I cannot find a photo, but is that the smaller stripe used with the White Brick Jersey's, (Bowl Game) the thin lines definately represent the thinner lines of the jersey.  If not maybe a sample of a new stripe for next year. They've been metallic for years. Only thing different here is a lighter shade of decal and more narrow stripes. We had narrow helmet strips the first few years Grobe was at Ohio, but not that narrow. I was ok with the trim and thin stripes on the ghost out uniforms, but I don't like the brick numbers which are hard to read on TV. Back to Top Bobcat Grad 86 General User Member Since: 12/20/2004 Post Count: 1,397 Status: Offline     RE: Helmet??    Posted: 1/9/2014 3:50:52 PM  When Grobe came and we changed to the Arched Ohio Logo (his first year was an Arched Ohio and Paw Combined) the helmets were impregnated white which meant the color was from the base plastic. You could tell those helmets because the outside of the rivet for the jaw pads that are on the outside of the helmet are silver. You can see that on the Ohio helmet in the inside cover of the 1996 media guide. When the helmets are painted and normally include a flec, those outside rivets are painted over. You can see that in the picture of Lavon above. The snaps for the chin straps are still silver as they are added after the helmets are painted. I think the Ohio helmets have been painted for the better part of ten years or more and have had the silver fleck in them most of the years. In Jasons picture, it appears to be a darker fleck. UVA switched to a painted helmet about 12 years ago but did not add the flec in the finish. I saw the process on TV for the new matte helmet finish and it is a wrap around type of material that is not sprayed on. As for the decal on the helmet is Jason's office, I noticed that Louisville had the old style color and finish in their stripes and decal when they played us and during their bowl game they had a more metallic finish in the stripes and cardinal similar to the helmet on Jason's desk. In the past when schools only had one helmet style, they would send the helmets back annually for several years to be refurbished and repainted each season. Riddell use to buff the helmets to remove indented scratches prior to re-painting. Most schools will send shoulder pad back to be sanitized and the foam padding replaced every so often. One is outside in unknown natural lighting conditions and being used, the other is sitting on a desk under fluorescent lighting and not used, but rather a display. I agree 86, that decal looks to be different, even a lighter shade of green. Back to Top Victory General User Member Since: 3/10/2012 Post Count: 2,309 Status: Offline     RE: Helmet??    Posted: 1/11/2014 11:41:11 AM  It is hard to tell because we know little of the lighting and camera but if I had to guess its probably approximately the same color of green (after all Ohio Green is defined as a color) & white with more reflective decals and and paint and thinner helmet stripes.  I'l like to see the striping in general on the older standard home & away uniforms become thinner to be more consistent with the newer alternate uniforms.
