Dane Brugler of CBS is looking at one player from each 1A school who probably won't be called this weekend but will wind up as a UDFA early next week. Here are his picks from the MAC (he's doing schools A-M today; N-Z tomorrow):
AKRON
OT Jarrod Pughsley (6-5, 308, 5.31)
Versatile starting experience at both tackle positions and inside at guard, Pughsley anchored an Akron offensive line that allowed just 2.25 sacks per game this past season.
BALL STATE
WR Willie Snead (5-11, 195, 4.62)
Keith Wenning's top target, Snead skipped his senior season after his productive junior year, ranking third in the FBS in receiving yards (1,516) in 2013, catching at least five games each game.
BOWLING GREEN
TE Alex Bayer (6-4, 257, 4.78)
Although the senior stats aren't gaudy (27 catches, 2 scores), Bayer is a three-year starter and team captain with better-than-adequate speed for his size and strength.
BUFFALO
WR Alex Neutz (6-3, 214, 4.60)
While lacking burning speed, Neutz is a vertical threat deep and has the size to match-up well vs. defensive backs, finishing his 2013 season with 61 catches for 1,024 yards and 12 scores.
CENTRAL MICHIGAN
RB Zurlon Tipton (6-0, 223, 4.72)
After 1,492 rushing yards and 19 scores as a junior, Tipton's senior season as cut short due to a broken ankle in the season opener, but he simply produces when healthy.
EASTERN MICHIGAN
FS Mycal Swaim (6-3, 214, 4.49)
With an average collegiate resume, Swaim hasn't really been on the NFL radar, but impressive workouts have garnered attention with 39-inch vertical and 6.97 3-cone drill.
KENT STATE
LB Roosevelt Nix (5-11, 248, 4.81)
While he's no Khalil Mack and lacks NFL measureables, Nix is one of the most productive defensive players in MAC history with 65 career tackles for loss and 12 forced fumbles in his career as a hybrid lineman. [This surprised me; I think Nix will be at least a 7th rounder, maybe 6th]
MASSACHUSETTS
OT Anthony Dima (6-6, 290, 5.23)
A three-year starter at left tackle, Dima looks the part with the strength to hold up in the run game, just needs to tweak a few hiccups in pass protection.
MIAMI (OHIO)
DT Austin Brown (6-2, 295, 4.97)
After struggling with a back injury in 2012, Brown rebounded with a solid 2013 season and has the workout numbers that will attract some NFL attention.
NORTHERN ILLINOIS
QB Jordan Lynch (6-0, 217, 4.76)
A Heisman finalist, Lynch was the heartbeat of the NIU offense and while his skills don't translate as a high-level passer in the NFL, he still has something to offer teams, maybe at another position. [When was the last time a Heisman finalist went undrafted?]
OHIO
CB Travis Carrie (6-0, 206, 4.47)
After missing all of 2012 with a shoulder injury, Carrie returned in 2013 an finished with four interceptions and showed well at his pro day with a 41-inch vertical and 4.47 40-yard dash. [I've seen him going as high as 4th round, though.]
TOLEDO
WR Bernard Reedy (5-8, 173, 4.58)
His persistent drops are tough to ignore, but Reedy has lightning quick feet with elusive moves to create separation and create with the ball in his hands.
WESTERN MICHIGAN
SS Johnnie Simon (6-0, 197, 4.63)
A hybrid linebacker/safety, Simon is a three-year starter with reliable production, but is still recovering from February shoulder surgery.
