...realistically how much, if any, of your winnings would you give to Ohio University and/or Ohio Athletics? Would it be a lump sum or would you give annually?

I think it depends on how much the lottery is. If I won a Mega Millions jackpot of say $300 million (after taxes), I'd easily give $5-10 million each to the school and the AD up front, maybe more, with the possibility of annual giving in much smaller amounts. This would possibly be funding a scholarship here or there.

Now, I won say $25-$50 million, then yeah I would still give to both, but the amounts would be cut way down. I gots pets to feed ya know.

I know some people would say "yeah, wait till you actually have the money and THEN see how much you would really give." But for me, I can't see myself even knowing what to do with an enormous amount of money like that. There are only so many houses you can live in and cars you can drive. And other than helping out family and donating to charity, why not show some love to the alma mater?

Keep in mind that any gift to a university is tax deductible.

Seriously, our local Public School District could use asphalt for the bus parking/maintenance lot. The track is still dirt and I would buy them a rake for the jumping pit. Lots of help needed there. Still athletes qualify for the state meet.

I'm not against to giving to local public schools either, but that's not what I asked.

If the lottery winnings were large enough (let's say, a Powerball winnings of $250,000,000), I'd donate enough to Ohio University such that I get a dorm named after me. Seriously. I would love it if there were a Lembright Hall, loaded with all the latest amenities for students. Dare to dream I guess.......

That's a great idea. Lembright Hall just sounds like something that should be on campus anyway.

I would donate to both the athletics and academics departments annually. I would donate to every department, well, except the Classics.

For academics, I'd probably establish a scholarship fund for the College of Business and/or the Honors Tutorial College. On the athletics side, I'd set up an endowed fund for a training table/nutrition program for student athletes.

And as the Optimist, shouldn't the header be changed to "When" and not "If"??

I actually remember making that same remark in the chat a couple years back... Still no luck but I still have hope.

$150 million for academics, split between osteopathic medicine, journalism and history. In the history department it would be to endow a professorship in Civil War and Reconstruction studies.

$150 million to endow all athletic scholarships in all sports.

AMEN here to the endowment for a professorship in Civil War and Reconstruction Studies!!

Upon further thought, I think I'd also donate money to the Russ College of Engineering so that they can co-host great conferences such as the international 28th Summer Space Studies Program they're co-hosting this Summer at Ohio University. It seems to be quite a coup to be able to host such an event and really gets Ohio's name out there internationally.

If I was in charge of a university, I'd focus 100% of my fundraising on student scholarships and endowed professors. No new programs, centers, buildings, facilities, etc. Gotta build that endowment wall high. Winter is coming....

I'd let Lembright have Lembright Hall as a reward for the Lembright Scholars program.....
