How about an all-purpose special teamer? Joshua Abrams could do it all, and had a nice career in the NFL.

I like this idea. I'm changing it from returner to special teamer.

Who put the hit (which earned a flag) on Johnny Musso at Northwestern? I nominate that guy.

I remember a Williams kick return against Miami. He didn't run it all the way back, but it took virtually the entire Miami coverage team to bring Williams down. He was shrugging off and running over would-be after would-be tackler. It caused me to do something I've done only rarely: after the game I made my way down to the field to congratulate him on a classic example of sheer determination.

I nominate Brian Albrecht #80 from the 2011 era. Good size and speed, was a headhunter on kick coverage.

We might be remembering different returns. I did indeed speak with Williams after his return.

Mike, I was responding to Robert. Fitzgerald put the notorious hit on Brian Musso at Northwestern. Apparently NU people have not forgotten :)

The week after that game the sports radio guys were very critical of the hit on Musso. (Brian, not Johnny - my mind is not what I need it to be all the time).
I nominate Fitzgerald.

It was a violent hit to be sure and seemed almost planned. There was no look of "whoops! Sorry 'bout that!" from Fitzgerald or anyone on the field.

But....those old Grobe-era Bobcats were damn physical weren't they?! Sure, NW won the game fairly easily with an offensive spurt in the 2nd quarter. (they were coming off a Big 10 title I think???) But the cats played them hard and left some serious bumps and bruises. Fitzgerald (just a sophomore) had an epic game: at least a dozen tackles, a couple for a loss, forced fumbles, etc...

That game made me a Bobcat fan as a middle school kid. I wore that VHS tape out for several years afterwards.
