That was an interesting mix of things that show understanding of what is happening, combined with some confusion. I can answer one of their questions "Ben Russell, is he healthy again?" - Nope, he was forced to retire.
The other area of confusion they have is an area we aren't too clear on here, either, the Safety position. They kept saying that three of four starting DBs were back, all except Thad Ingol, but while they name Wells and Layton, they seem to think that the other safety is Devin Bass. The name they were looking for was indeed Devin, but Devin Jones.
Here's a look at the people that played Safety last year, ranked in descending order by tackles/game: Lost: Thad Ingol - started 10 games, played in 11, 44 tackles (4.4/game) Josh Kristoff - started 6 games, played in 10, 33 tackles (3.3/game), 2 Ints
Returning: Devin Jones - started 7 games, played in 8, 32 tackles (4.6/game) Toran Davis - started 2 games, played in 12, 42 tackles (3.5/game), 1 Int Nate Carpenter - 3 games, 10 tackles (3.3 tackles/game), 1 int Aaron Macer - played in 9 games, 11 tackles (1.2 tackles/game) Blake Scipio - played in 5 games, 2 tackles (.4 tackles/game) Corey Quallen - 3 games, 1 tackle (.33 tackles/game) Grant Cunningham - played in 8 games, 2 tackles (.25 tackles/game)
Viewed like this, the projected starters of Jones and Davis aren't surprising.
