MAC media day is today and can be seen on ESPN3 from 1-3 p.m. Coach Solich, Jovon Johnson and Lucas Powell are representing Ohio. Coach Solich will be interview at 2:50 p.m. He also will have a radio interview at 12:20 p.m. on ESPN Cleveland (not sure if this is WKNR or WKNR2). We should also get the media preseason vote.

Edit: Contrary to what the release said, it appears ESPN3 will begin MAC media day coverage at noon.

I must be bad at math, but I'd love to know how only 4 of the 24 voters feel that Northern Illinois will win the west, but 6 of the same 24 believe that NIU will win the MAC Championship game. That sure seems suspicious.

Also, interesting to note that nobody thinks a MAC East team has a chance to win the Championship game.

Coach Solich just told Tony Rizzo ESPN Cleveland that Sprauge is in the lead for the QB spot right now.

Well, NIU is close to Chicago....

Al Gore is demanding a recount.

I find it interesting that 18 voters picked BG to win the East but not one picked them to win the MACC.

What.

Wow. The opposition has to be quacking in their shoes worrying about those 3 TD's he threw last year.
We are in deep doo doo if that's true.

Would you have said the same thing about the 4 TDs that Austin Everson threw in 2005, or Everson's 47.7% completion percentage?

Everson 2005: 105-220-11, 4 TDs, 1151 yards, 87.7 pass efficiency
Sprague 2014: 98-202-5, 3 TDs, 1236 yards, 99.9 pass efficiency

Despite having a rough 2005 season, Everson was a serviceable QB in 2006, and played substantially better. If Sprague improves as much between 2014 and 2015 as Everson did, he could be fine, too. The one thing I will say about Sprague is that he seems to be a tough, hard nosed football player with a competitive streak.

I still think that Vick is the better of the two, and I hope he's healthy enough to win the job, but I'm not overly concerned about Sprague. I think he can get the job done, too.

And here's another MAC Media Day gem from Akron for the bulletin board:

The big game: For Akron defensive tackle Cody Grice, he has his eye on one MAC team in particular. "I want OU, and I mean that,'' he said of the Bobcats. "It seems like every year that's always the game where we go through our slump. I have no problems with anybody on their team, nothing like that, but I want OU."

Get ready boys, they want yOU!

Has anyone thought of the possibility that JD could have improved from last year?? I don't know what's so hard to believe about it. Guys make strides all the time from year to year. So what Sprague did in 2014 is the best he can ever do and that's his ceiling?? Personally, I do expect to see Vick win the job and be the starter. But if Sprague does indeed win the job because he improved and surpassed Vick, I won't find it shocking at all. Both guys had their ups and downs last year and both came in to replace the other during times of ineffectiveness. Overall in 2014 I felt Vick was the better of the two. But guess what? It's not 2014 anymore, it's 2015. So if Solich - a guy who knows a hell of a lot more about where things stand between the two than any of us do - says that, what's so unbelievable about it?

No knock on JD.I was just under the impression that Vick was the clubhouse leader after beating Miami.
It appeared to me he had the most ability but I could care less who starts as long as they win.

I like Vick because he is good enough, when healthy, to win a MACC. However, Windham and Duckworth are going to be as good, perhaps better. If Windham or Duckworth have taken over the huddle, play them. Not forgetting Sprague, I just see more upside with the younger players. Who is best bonding with the WRs? Damned if I know.

The homer in me has a theory:
It's a feint, but not towards Idaho. Idaho is one of the worst teams (maybe the very worst team) in FBS. We should be able to beat them with our second string.

So sure, start Sprague week 1. Because after that first game, we get 9 days to prep for Marshall, who only gets 6 days to prep for us. Start the true first team offense week 2 with the extra practice time and throw Marshall off.

The other part of this? The 2 deep shows only 1 running back, with AJ starting and Daz backing him up. SUPPOSEDLY we are working with more 2 back sets, and Irons has been wowing coaches. He's already used his redshirt, so there's no sense in holding him back now if he's that good. But he's nowhere to be seen on the depth chart.

Week 1: Good ol' AJUTM
Week 2: Super secret 2-back Vick-led offense that Terd has no way to prepare for.

Book it.

Honorary OHIO alumnus Cump Sherman is very proud of your thought process here. On his March to the Sea, he feinted toward Augusta and the rebs concentrated some forces there, he then did the same thing toward Macon. In both cases he just marched the main body of his force right by them and ended up in Savannah with very few casualties. He then marched into Savannah and gave it to President Lincoln as a Christmas present. Perhaps Frank, with similar methodology, can give us a MACC as an early December Christmas present.

Yeah - but the reb forces around Macon and Augusta on that march were like D2/D3 competition at best.....

To be fair, in 2005 Everson was learning an entirely new system. Of course he was going to be better in 2006.

Do you really remember the Miami game? We scored three TDs. One on a kick return, one after recovering a fumble inside the miami 5. We had one actual TD drive. Vick also had a pick-6.

Vick's connection to Cope setting up the game winning FG was a prime-time play, no doubt, and I'm in the camp that is confident we're going to have a better year, but it's not because of anything that happened in that miami game.

Truth is, both QBs had problems throwing to the other team last year. I'll sacrifice completion percentage for whichever guy doesn't turn the ball over.

Why in the world is Akron so high? Buffalo spotted them 7 pts on a bad interception to start the game last year and then utterly demolished them for the rest of the 59 mins and 24 secs. We outgained them by 307 yards and we didn't even have a head coach at the game. The Bulls had the same record but would've had a better record had the Kent game actually been played and we retain all of our offensive skill players who made the Zips look like a high school team. I think everything else is pretty fair, though I'm not convinced that a healthy Frohnapfel would have made up for the 3 TDs that we beat UMASS by.

OU looked great last year in what was Buffalo's worst MAC performance. Ouelette torched us and your defense was really the only team to completely smother our offense all season long. We only scored in garbage time. I am guessing some of that was pent up rage from the previous year's obvious "safety" ;) . My MAC East rankings:

BGSU
OHIO
BUFFALO
UMASS
KENT
MIAMI
