Edit - Updated 8/11
Here is what has been reported so far, from Arkley twitter/blogs:
Brandon Purdum - had off-season surgery, is out a few more weeks
Kyle Kuhar - had off-season shoulder surgery
Jerid McCray - sprained knee - out a few weeks
Mike Lucas - limited practice for now, had an ankle sprain
Robbins - hydration issues
Brunis - sore knee
Dixon - hamstring
Howell, Anderson, and Grimes also out

Let's hope none of these are too serious, and they all are back soon.

Was Howell's calf strain fairly minor?

I've seen crazier things happen.

I haven't mentioned all the people that have missed a practice or two. Some others are Robbins, Grimes, Anderson, Gibbons, Dixon and Langenkamp. Wood and Quallen missed a few, but are practicing again, with some limitations.

Note that one of the comments that Solich made at Media day today was that the last two years have not been good enough, so they embarked on a fact-finding mission during off-season to look for ways/techniques to keep team healthier, and that included visits to, or from such people as Jim Bollman (Mich St), Jerry Kill (Minnesota), David Cutcliffe (Duke), reps from Tennessee and OSU. One thing they have added was a new pre-game stretching routine they learned from Urban Meyer.

That should be Urban Meyer®.

More on changes for 2015:
ohiobobcats.com wrote:
“Obviously, if you look at the last couple years, I feel we’ve had more injuries than teams I’ve been around in the past,” Solich said. “We looked at everything we were doing, from how we’re practicing to the length of our practices, to how we’re going to practice, what kind of shoes we’re going to wear in practice.”

He also mentioned moving to grass surfaces on Mondays and the pre-gameday practice to reduce a bit of the wear and tear that comes with playing on an artificial surface.

Happy to hear the coaching staff has taken notice and a few new strategies are being deployed. I hate injuries.

Article in the Dispatch reports that Solich also changed stretching regimen based on trips to OSU. Who's in charge of stretching...oh, yeah, the strength & conditioning coach!

If you are going to use the article, accurately report the information. They examined the pre game stretching routine, that's 12 times in the season, not the everyday routine. And Coach Solich is always looking for new and improved ways, that's the mark of a good leader, always open to new ways of doing things.

In looking back to last year at this point in fall camp there appears to be a similar number of guys missing time and the injuries are not specified.
Hopefully the adjustments mentioned by Coach to help on the injury front will translate into fewer players out.

It seems like the staff is concerned and taking steps to avoid injuries. In my opinion most of the injuries occur during practice and scrimmages.
The answer is to try and find the right mix of necessary contact in practice and scrimmages to prepare for games.

McCray's injury was reported to not be serious, and he will be back in a few weeks. Robbins, Purdum, Howell, and Anderson continue to be out, but Lucas was back.
