Usually, early in game week, "Game Notes" is printed and available at the football website. It shows everything in print for game week. Matchups, everything football. Since this is a Thursday game, I thought these might already be ready and available. Apparently not. Does anyone know the schedule for Game Notes being available?

I have no idea on the schedule, but when they do put them up, you might find them at this link, which includes 2013 and 2014:

The Messenger has a link up that states TWO DEEP HAS ARRIVED. But there is no way to see a two deep.
Further it states that Robbie Walker is going to start at a receiver position , according to a Two Deep released today.
Anybody seen it?

Arkley's blog has it, along with some answers from the Idaho beat reporter.
http://www.athensmessenger.com/blogs/bobcat_blog/learning...

Cope is not on the 2 deep, but Arkley says he will play. I wonder if he's been outplayed in practice or if there is lingering concern over his camp injury.

Also, it sounds like Idaho's new defensive philosophy is to try to confuse QBs with lots of pre-snap motion out of the 3-4. I think our zone read run game should match up very well against that. All that pre-snap motion is going to do is get defensive players out of position and open up big gaps for runners.

Cope's injury was described as a head injury. I assume his limited practice the last several days
makes him tentative for action in Moscow.

It is surprising for me to see a true Freshman on the 2-Deep a year after playing 4 true Freshmen at OL positions, and after recruiting two JUCO offensive linemen. I guess it must mean that he's really good. The same can be said for the other true freshmen on the 2-deep. Both Belack and Provitt moved up the chart quickly, moving ahead of a lot of other players.

For Paul, walkons or former walkons on the two deep, 3 offense, 3 defense:
OUellette RB
Marhefka WR
Sprague QB
Daugherty SLB
Moore WLB
Jones FS
plus Yazdani, Kicker

So, apparently four true Freshmen already appear slotted to play, and others may as well. The ones slotted to play are Provitt, Pleasants, Hale, and Belack. As a reminder of the limitations on the accuracy of their information, let's look and see what the ratings services thought of these four. Were they the highest rated players in the class?
Scout.com - rated 9 of 24 players 3 stars. Of the four that made the two deep, all but Provitt were rated 2 stars, and Provitt didn't make the list at all.
http://tinyurl.com/orj3nrm

ESPN - considered 9 of the recruits good enough to rate. Of those that will play, only Hale got rated, and he was rated a bare minimum.
http://tinyurl.com/orj3nrm

Rivals.com - the top 8 recruits, according to them, were rated at 5.4 or above. Three more were rated 5.3, and the rest all got minimum ratings. Of the four that will play, only one was rated over 5.2, that being Pleasants who was rated 5.3.
http://tinyurl.com/n99wwqe

247Sports - 11 players were rated 3 stars. None of the four that will play are on that list. Pleasants was rated .782, Belack was .758, Hale was .756, and Provitt was totally unknown and unrated.
http://tinyurl.com/ptw9zfh

What about the rating method I favor, other offers? The four who will play had the following offers:
Belack - Marshall
Hale - none
Provitt - none
Pleasants - Akron, Toledo

What does all this mean? As usual, when you look at how the ratings compare to real world performance, the ratings are not worth much. All the services had 9 or ten recruits that they thought were better than these four, but it's these four than earned some PT.

For another, how many avg stars for the group?

I was answering exactly that for the four true Freshmen that made the two deep, and I added it to my post above.

To clarify my point, am I saying that the recruiting services have no value? Absolutely not. I have been observing them for years, and the result is always the same - very little correlation between Ohio 2 star and Ohio 3 star recruits, yet overall, a higher percentage of their 3-star recruits end up in the NFL than 2 star recruits.

So, how can you reconcile these facts? First of all, the 2 star recruits that Ohio signs are not average, randomly selected 2-star recruits. They are 2-star recruits that coaching has has seen, or has heard about that the staff thinks is better than the run of the mill 2 star recruit. Secondly, the 3-star recruits that Ohio signs are also not average. The best of the 3-star recruits usually have multiple P5 offers.

In the end Ohio recruits better than average 2-star recruits, and worse than average 3-star recruits, and the result is no correlation because recruiting rankings and on-the-field performance.

Recruiting starts with camps, evaluations and creating a list of players that will be offered by the coaching staff. The ones that do end up at Ohio do so for different reasons. I counted 176 offers that were on the table for the 2016 recruiting class and 16 have committed and. The coaching staff definitely has set a bar in terms of who they are willing to send an offer out to. Stars has nothing to do with who is offered.

I was told via email today that game notes and media guide will be uploaded when they are ready. I queried when will they be ready?
"By the time the team boards the plane tomorrow", I was told.
hmmmm.

Media Guide is up. Game Note page is now showing 2015 w/o active links to Idaho Notes. Baby steps.

I'll bite my tongue here. Good for them!

I'm not sure you can be certain the best players have earned PT this year. For example, they seem very high on some of the DB's (Williams, Hagan, etc...) but they are RS'ing. Does that mean that Provitt was the best DB of the lot? Who knows.

You are exactly correct, Paul. There are many factors that go into it, including depth at specific positions. Even then, they have been known to redshirt the better player to allow him to develop, and play the other one. As an example, in 2005 they played Jayson White as Freshman, and redshirted Morsillo, and then Morsillo was the starter the next four years.

Typically, though, they aren't going to play a player as a Freshman unless he's better than the other players on the roster, so if they are playing as a true Freshman, it's at least an indication that they are pretty good.
