Congrats to them … Go you Bobcats 21, Marshall 10 … A week late on this one, but as a Mid-American Conference school grad, I loved seeing a top-10-caliber school like Michigan State have enough respect for a state school (or whatever the reason was) to travel to Kalamazoo and play Western Michigan.

I applaud PK for the shout but the truth is I wouldn't want their fans infesting OUr town.

I'm more interested in getting middle-tier Big Ten schools to come to Athens. I'll take home games against Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, Northwestern. Those games interest me. They would be good games.

Essentially, I want Toledo's schedule.

It's why I wish Columbus Crew Stadium were a tad bigger. I'd love to play a game against a Power Five school in Columbus every year. I just don't want to play it in Ohio Stadium or in a three-quarters empty First Energy Stadium. A 40,000-seat stadium unaffiliated with another program in the state that would give access to an airport.

I'd say Infocision would be perfect...if it weren't Akron's stadium.

I think we'd have more than that if we were playing the type of team he suggested: a middle-tier Big Ten school. But it would be more like a road game.

I live in Columbus. Yeah, I guess I'd go to a game if it were at Crew stadium (because I go to all our home games) (also its 1.5 miles from my apartment), but good God, why would I want to trade a game day in Athens for hanging out next to I-71 here?!?

Because we were discussing teams not willing to come to Athens because it lacks an airport. That was the whole point of putting the game in Columbus. Of course we'd rather play it in Athens in a vaccum. The reality is, Virginia Tech would rather buy its way out of a game in Athens than play one here.

In that line of thought, I guess its fair enough (though I still think it would be a bad trade to make, regardless who the opponent is), but I frequently see people saying "wouldn't be great to play a game at crew stadium/NFL-hall of fame high school field regardless of the opponent (at least once suggested for the post-thanksgiving MAC game). Not a fan of moving a conference home game like that under any circumstances.

Oh, no doubt my idea is terrible. I'm just brainstorming.

If I were AD, I'd go full-on Bill Veeck and turn gameday into a circus. It would be a DISASTER when I booked a Gary Richrath-less REO Speedwagon for a post-game concert right after we played in shiny silver uniforms that blinded everyone in the sunlight and handed out real-life bobkittens for the "Take Home A Bobcat" giveaway for the first 500 fans.

And just think of how cranky those bobcats would get when people rode the cramped, crowded gondola up to the new Ridges parking lot, which — coincidentally — bankrupted the university to build.

Also, everyone entering the stadium wearing Ohio State gear would have to take it off and be given an old, stinky, guano-encrusted 1990s sweatshirt from a theoretical lost and found box taken from the attic of the president's infested house.

I'd be a terrible AD.

If you are referring to the loss of the Home VT game, that was 110% on us, not them. When we went to alter the location of the game but not the financials that was the end of that contract.

The reality is that OHIO asked VT to redo the 2-1 deal into a 2-0 deal for our own financial reasons. If we hadn't taken the initiative VT would have come to Athens as per the original contract. VT runs as a fairly honorable operation, and doesn't usually welch on its agreements. Also, another reality is that when UConn came to Athens they flew in and out of Parkersburg, which is about a 45 minute drive to campus. Most schools flying into big cities take at least that long to get to the campus area of the school they will be playing the next day.

How many times do MAC schools schedule Youngstown State to be their opponent? Shouldn't Akron, Kent and OHIO be giving a regional team a financial lift vs Texarkansas Amalgamated?

Seems a bit hypocritical to call out Columbus; at least nowadays they schedule MAC teams for paydays.

A game against OSU in Peden would be a waste of revenue.

It would be better to convince OSU to play in Cincy or Cleveland and have it be an Ohio home game. This would at least require both teams to travel semi-equally and would get OSU out of its comfort zone. Plus it would dumb down the crowd intimidation factor to an extent. Meanwhile, Ohio could collect the extra revenue from the larger crowd and as the home school.

Now, getting Northwestern, Purdue, Illinois or Iowa to Peden would be great.

I get laughed at for this, but I will repeat. There is a simple clause that should be included in EVERY Ohio University coaching contract, as part of the buy-out that allows the coach to leave for another job: Should the coach leave for a head coaching position at a "Power 5" conference school, he is obligated to schedule a game against Ohio University IN ATHENS to take place within 4 years of his leaving. Failure of the contest to be scheduled within two years and take place within four will result in a payment to Ohio University of $XXX (depending on sport). This should be standard for the men's basketball coach, women's basketball coach, football coach (yes, I know Frank isn't taking another job!) and the volleyball coach.

Had this been in place the last 10 years, we'd have seen Illinois men's hoops, OSU women's volleyball, and Boston College would be on the schedule for basketball within the next two years.

Other schools do this, I wish I could recall the school, but some big school in the South had to visit their coach's smaller former school for a basketball game a couple of years ago.

The payments in lieu of the game taking place should be realistic, but punitive to the point that it makes a LOT more sense just to come to Athens. Maybe $150k to $250 K for football, $75 to $100k for basketball.

Frankly, I am disappointed that the athletic department never was able to get Groce to come back here for a game. I'm not certain that they tried very hard. And I damnwell would have prevented Christian from leaving the convo without a signed contract for a BC visit (yes, I know that's impossible, but you get the point).
