This is what you call a trap game. They fit into the schedule after some very tough games, and come before the important MAC games begin. There is every reason in the world to overlook them, but I don't think they will get overlooked. If they do get overlooked, it would be bad, because Norfolk State was 9-3 last year, and is likely to win a lot of games this year, too. Ohio should win, but only if they take care of business.

It's another exceptional passing game coming to town. Not much on the run but the QBs arm is live with lots of yards gained through the air, especially on first and second downs.

Nofolk State is stocked with lots of seniors, juniors etc. who match-up pound for pound with Ohio. Hope they don't have App State speed.

this isn't a trap game, this is a trap MONTH- Norfolk St, @UMass, Buffalo and Akron is a cake walk at first glance, but we know what happened at Buffalo last year and that could happen with any of these again this year if we don't take care of business. Hopefully we can slide through these unscathed and well tested and rested, hit our bye week and then smash through the final 5 before Detroit.

Norfolk St was 9-3 last year, this isn't Savannah St showing up lookin for a hand out, Cats better be ready to go.

I don't look for anybody in the home locker room to overlook this team.  Not after they went 9-3 last year; not after beating Liberty by a TD on the road a week after Liberty lost by a FG to Wake; not after they came back from a 23-0 third Q deficit to send the game into OT and lose on a blocked PAT.  Solich has never lost to a 1AA school here at Ohio and I think it's because he doesn't take them for granted.  There have already been ten 1A schools that have lost to 1AA this season; Solich doesn't want Ohio added to the list.  They'll be ready.

Watch out, you'll get Andrew Ruck frustrated.

I think Norfolk State's win over Liberty speaks volumes.  That's a good road win over a decent team.

Also, I notice that they drew almost 11,000 for their last home game.  That's really good for FCS.

I can understand a possible let down but the guys have to focus and come to play vs. this team.

By contrast, Terry Bowden's debut in Akron officially drew 9933, which of course means there weren't nearly that many bodies in the seats.

This game will not be a blowout!  I watched a bit on ESPN late night Saturday.  They started out way behind but came back.  And, they threw the ball 51 times for almost 400 yards.  Looks like the OUr Secondary will get a work out again.  Good news is their rush game was non existent (maybe because they were behind most of the game.  Oh, and it looked the receivers had good speed!

Gonna be another grinder but we obviously SHOULD win.

Thanks to Frank's "boring" one game at a time outlook, we don't have to worry about our players looking ahead.

That said, I'm glad our schedule has set up like it has.  Penn State, New Mexio State, Marshall, and now Norfolk like to throw the ball.  Our secondary will be well tested by the time that we have Miami and Bowling Green, en route (fingers crossed) to Detroit, where we'll likely play a good passing attack regardless of who it is.  This month looks on paper as a month of opponents that we should be able to win comfortablly against.  If we pull that off, starters will get rest, younger guys will get reps, and we'll have our kinks worked out for the final push.

In the next 6 games, Ohio should be favored by 2-3 touchdowns in 5 of them. The other one is against Miami, who, as we know, sucks. All six will want to know how tough the guy really is with the eyepatch, but hopefully in at least a few of them Ohio can open a big lead and rest the starters. It's still a longshot to go undefeated, but this part of the schedule does look easier than the first 3.

My goal for this week is a simple one: Win the first quarter. Life will be a lot easier if the Bobcats don't start out behind every week.

Looking at the box scores for the other two games, Norfolk State runs the ball quite well.  I'd assume they threw the ball because they were down 30-7 with 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

Rooting for Akron is like cheering on the Taliban.

Norfolking way Ohio loses this game. As with most FCS games, we should hope for vanilla play calling, domination of both sides of the line and no injuries. Add some sunshine and Saturday should be nice day with far less drama than last week.

I'm interested to see how they play Tettleton this week.  (Well, I won't get to actually see it because my work schedule has me in on Saturdays from now on.)  He was banged up a little at Marshall, as L.C. pointed out on the "Injuries" thread.

I'd say we'll see Vick quite a bit.  Maybe they'll play him on every 3rd or 4th drive of the game, if not go in a pure dual quarterback gameplan.  Or, they'll do a lot of running plays and short drop passes to get the ball out of Tyler's hands and keep the defensive line from having time to pressure him.  Coach's will probably tell him to take it easy running, not to take big hits when he can get out of bounds or something.

As I recall, these guys had a big upset in the last NCAA BB tourney.  They would like nothing better than to knock off a 3-0 FBS team.  Better watch out.

I am not real thrilled about the rumblings about TT's health.  The season may turn quickly if he isn't healthy.

Like Penn St (and Ohio, in the first two games), they're having huge problems in the kicking game.  In the first three games, they've had three extra points and two field goals blocked.  A blocked PAT in OT lost them last week's game.

This may be an awesome game for the RBs.  Last week, Howard ran for 222 yards against them, mostly in the first half.  This may be one where Ohio just runs the ball and dares NSU to stop them.

I watched Norfolk play this weekend and it would appear they would prefer to run first.  The announcers felt the same way.    They had several early turnovers and got down 20 -0 and were forced to throw.  They did not seem comfortable doing this but never the less were successful.  A couple of really tall receivers.

They had a ton of penalties.  The announcers said they are the most penalized team in FCS (at least this is what I remember him saying)

Regarding their D.  Our standard 1st and 10 play should work nicely..

Regarding their Special teams:  I think they had 2 punts and 2 extra points blocked.

To summarize;  I first thought this should be an easy win based on their first half performance.  However, they made a great comback in the second half showing me that they are alot like our Bobcats.

In regards to the Tettleton injury concern, I play him with the mindset to try to blow Norfolk St. away in the first half. If we can do this, I would sit him the second half and let Vick get some big expirience in the second half with some extended playing time. We have to take care of business and put this one away quickly, so we need to come out focused and ready to go and not be sluggish out of the gate.

If Ohio loses this game, it is a fireable offense. Someone on the staff will have to lay on the sword.
