WR looks like a make us or break us area this year. It's hard to replace 2 excellent receivers like Brazill and Dunlop.
Currently it looks like Foster and Dovell and Futrell will be the starters. Look for guys like Bussey and Cochran and Clark to get early looks. Juco Matt Waters has looked good in practice. Other receivers like L. Smith and Ngoumou and S. Smith are also in the picture.

The intriguing guys are the guys who can be game breakers but aren't necessarily starting....that's not to degrade the big play ability of the starters....but when you look at Ngoumou and Cochran and Bussey you see loads of potential. All three have shown the ability to get open deep and it seems catching the ball on a consistent basis or lack of same will determine their amount of playing time.

If I had to predict one secret weapon it probably would be true freshman Sebastian Smith. The cb's of a team playing in the D1 Ohio high school championship game are not exactly chopped liver and Smith scored 2 TD's in that final game. I've also waited for Bussey to have a breakout game...still waiting.

Two seasons back Bussey caught two passes in traffic and took and administered heavy blows on two different crossing patterns. His toughness led me to keep an eye on him with expectations for continued use--it didn't happen.

It seems like the lad may be in the dog house. I recall watching him reach the sidelines after a special team play and getting an earfull from Coach S with the subsequent player's noticeable aggitation after the coaches remarks. Not much was to be seen from him after that particular game last season.

When will we see a depth chart for this position along with comments from the staff of how they envision each players spot on the team?

Since our last posts it sounds like we've had a few guys step up, a few guys who are hurt and one who has left.

Based on this is it safe to assume Foster, Dovell and Futrell are still penciled in as the starters for Penn State or could some of the others have worked their way into one of those spots (excluding Fosters of course). (Waters and Cochran seemed to have had pretty good camps from what I've read).

My gut says it's safer to go with what's been there before and start
1. Foster
2. Futrell
3. Dovell (if he's ready to go)

Maybe bring in Cochran, Bussey and Waters throughout the game...

Are these guys enough to allow us to redshirt S. Smith and save him for another year?   I hope so.

The good news is it looks like we are not as depleted as we originally feared and that we are talking about the possibilities of Freshman seeing playing time because of his skills and performance. Now that's a good thing..

I'd love to see Chase Cochran make the first team. From Arkley's blog it sounds like he's been making big plays and has come in as the deep threat. With Tettleton's decision making it'd be nice to know there's someone out on the field that can really bust open the defense on a big play.

I remember one of my roommates ran in states back in 2008. I believe I remember him commenting that Chase was the fastest white guy there.

Donte's got great hands, and is the most experienced. He's got to be the number one.

I'd also love to see Dovell just because I heard him say on some video that he wanted to be the best blocking reciever in the MAC.

I loved that quote, especially coming from a former QB. It was one of my two favorite quotes in the videos we have seen preseason. I hope the other WR plan to give him a run for his money, though.

For what it's worth, my other favorite was Eric Herman, next to Daz Patterson, in "Relentless", where he tries to keep a straight face as he says "I make the holes, he runs through them. That's how it works", and he gives Daz a bump, and little 5'6 Daz bumps him right back, and they both are grinning. I'm definitely looking forward to it working exactly as he described.

I am expecting that we will throw more to the RB's & TE's this year due to the inexperienced WR group.
While I am saying this is a defensive decision it could prove out as an advantage.

Well that is terrible news to hear that our one real deep threat is out for the year. I wonder if we will be able to stretch the field. I can envision a lot of stacking the box against Tettleton and the run game.
