Just stopping by for a quick hello. I've got big-time respect for your team and your head coach. I really hope we don't lose today - BUT - if we do, at least it will be to a respectable program with great fans.

Here's to a clean game with no injuries for either team!

Big thanks to WVU for playing here on the road. We all know this rarely happens. If you are coming to town hope you have a great time except for inside Peden Stadium.

For those of you unable to attend,, know that your fellow Bobcats just enjoyed "their finest moment" on Saturday September 6th sharing Athens with fellow Appalachian Mountaineers. The tailgates, the fans, the weather, the bands, the results, just never better than this!

This game is what college football should be all about. Two close rivals each with respect for the other team. It was a very good game for the bobcats but I wish the mountains Lots of luck the rest of the year. This has been said Kudos to the mountaiineers for coming to Athens. I hope we can make this a series that continues.

Had several interactions with WVU fans during tailgate, game, and uptown post-game. All nice people and zero issues. Have no distaste for WVU whatsoever. 1000x better than Marshall fans.

Great game. Great fans. Friendly banter. They were stoked for a few minutes of the game. ;) Fun before and after. I didn't see any sour grapes. Not towards us, thats for sure. Hell, half the crowd went uptown to party. Every fan I talked to was pretty self-deprecating, and wanted to play here again and they loved Athens. I said the same about Iowa State fans too. They traveled well, and we were super engaging and welcoming folks. (Unless your last name is Rodriguez lol)

WVU likely feels different today, but I think most of us have been banging this drum for a while. We need to get more regional rivalry games like WVU into a sort of 'yearly' rotation. I see why maybe they're a little hesitant, especially if it's gonna end up as a G5 loss for them, but these games are so fun and really show what OU can be when a bigger name is in town. I'd love to get WVU, Cincinnati, Pitt in some sort of yearly home and home ring around the rosey - but this day and age, a G5 loss is gonna look a lot worse than your average loss to Kansas on the road.

We were favored at home against Kansas and Syracuse. Before the pandemic if the defending MAC champs had a team picked in the bottom handful of their league at home the MAC team would be favored and that was with the gap between the P5 and G5 being bigger than it was in the 2000s. We lost to Syracuse but did beat ISU as, if i recall, a small underdog. Now, in the NIL era, the gap is even bigger and reality of the gap size is beginning to match the belief of typical casual fans or fans that are more a fan of just their team. We won't be favored against P5 teams hardly ever even if we stay a consistent competitor for the MACC.

The only bad interaction I saw was the one where a fan taunted Fries we he was down unaware his mother was right in front of him. I have friends that went there. But I read their board as well and saw how many were surprised at only being a FG favorite. But we see that all the time. Fans believe their team is better than what it is. We often see it here.

Agree with your post, Victory, but would add not just the NIL era but also the transfer portal era, perhaps an even bigger factor.

I talked with a rather knowledgeable sports person a few days ago who said that in his analysis the portal was helping the upper tier G5 teams because they were getting transfers from very high ranked high school recruits who were tired of sitting on the pine at their P4 school. I haven't done any kind of analysis of this myself, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was correct. He also said the upper tier of G5 schools now have more depth on their benches due to the above factor as well as a greater number of JUCO transfers.

I have heard this sort of talk as well. It seems completely false. Computers are calculating a bigger gap from actual out of conference game results. Also, ask yourself this, how many players, as graduating seniors, are we putting into the NFL even though we have won 10, 10, and 11? We might, I agree, since there are just more players coming in and out of the program, get just as many or more over time that played for us at one point. Also, I think it is true that our freshman recruiting classes might be slightly better, it looks to me like they have been, since P5 are not as worried about developing their own players but instead taking our juniors and seniors. But we will have those NFL players, like Kaczmarek, as freshmen. Anyone, who focused just on that as thinks it adds up as an advantage is, IMO, off their rocker.

Increased competitiveness with lower tier P4, lower tier Big 12 and ACC for the upper G5 programs. Increased talent difference within G5 confernces. The gulf between Ohio and some of the bottom teams in the MAC has become large as evidence of them struggling with lower tier FCS opponents.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Fiami @ Peden with 25,086 fans
2023 10-7 near shutout of Iowa State @ Solich Field
2025 17-10 defeat of WVU @ Peden in front of 26,740

Or to look at this another way. There were a couple of teams quarterbacked by Nathan that would have been favored to beat any other MAC team at the end of the year but didn't win the MAC and didn't win 11 games. I can almost promise you that the line for those teams at the end of the year against the best teams would have been 3 or 4 points less than last years team. We still would have been an underdog to the vast majority of P5 teams last year.

Think of it this way. The P5 teams can either have our former upperclassmen or the JUCOs and recruits some people somehow talk up. They aren't leaving up these players because they are they better players and they are doing it out of the goodness of their heart.

It’s actually because, the big boys are not taking as many HS players and opting for some already developed talent with film. No doubt about that. It’s actually hurt HS kids more than college players.
