Good for Akron and good for the MAC!! Yes, to me a 48 year old, soccer's not on my sports radar. But to the 99% of the world's population it's a big deal, so good for Akron.

If you've ever had the chance to watch soccer in a country where it's the national sport, your tune would change. Had the chance to watch pro soccer in Europe twice. It's pretty darn good stuff.

Not only have I been sentenced to watch it, I worked for a guy from the UK who had this in his blood. He remains the best boss I ever had. I do business with many companies outside the US whose employees worship kick ball.

That said, kick ball is out. This is like trying to convince me osucks is great.

As far as female sports, I do think it tops the list.

Just my opinion, Al. I am not hating on sm-Akron. Good for them bro. I just never got the soccer thing.

What the hell do I know?

Sorry if this was over the top. Maybe too many pops after watching my Dolphins beat the J-E-T-S-ucks. I needed that after watching hoops today

No big deal DC. When I was growing up in Akron we didn't have junior high football but we did have junior high soccer. Everyone played it including the guys who played football in high school - even the good ones who ended up getting D1 scholarships at Big 10 and SEC schools. I enjoyed the three years in junior high that we played it and developed an appreciation for the sport. I also enjoyed playing football for one year in high school.

To each their own. I played our national past time all the way through HS and personally find it unbearable to watch. Golf the same. Soccer I enjoy. Congrats to Zippy.

The Wall St. Journal reverse jinx. As I recall, they wrote an article last year saying the MAC had never won a championship in any sport. Well, in your face WSJ. I kid. But more championships in anything would be good.

I grew up in the generation were soccer was just starting. Our grade school didn't offer it but our high school had a team. Can't say I'm a huge fan but I do appreciate the sport. Saw the US play in a World Cup game in the Silverdome and saw an Arsenal game when I was in London for work. Very cool. My daughter started playing this year and I think I'd like to take her to a Crew game next year as I've yet to hit one of their games.

It's a national title for a team that is a member of the MAC. That is significant in and of itself, and a major accomplishment. First thought, of course, would be "Akron?........c'mon man!" But their home soccer games are played to standing room only crowds. No other MAC sport can claim the same.

Very cool for Akron and the MAC. Shows it can be done. Miami was seconds from pulling it off in hockey recently too.

And Akron's coach is way hot right now. He does not play traditional American college soccer. Need to see more coaches trying this.

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

I worship at the altar of baseball and I love me some hockey but in the pantheon of offensively challenged sports, nothing tops soccer for frustratingly long periods of offensive ineptitude(?). I would like to understand why the world lives and dies with Lionel Messi's ups and downs or Wayne Rooney's antics but I don't get it. I did, however, love the Nike World Cup ads.

No matter; a championship is a CHAMPIONSHIP. Congratulations, Akron!

Why do we let Florida Atlantic in to compete in Soccer only? Shouldn't they have to bring their football team with them?

Missouri State competes in field hockey, and Louisville used to. Maybe we should have made Louisivlle schedule MAC teams in basketball.

WMU, BG, Buffalo, and NIU. Florida Atlantic and Hartwick are associate members for men's soccer.
