One Mr. Trent came here with a good bit of tough/hard life experiences and questionable history - OHIO was a great opportunity that he took Full advantage of and made the most of it. Highest grade "sandpaper" we have ever had. Hunter saw that opportunity and made the most of it. I have belief that Boal's will w/EJ IV as well.... I don't know much about him. I did want to note that Gary Trent was, by most definitions, a bad apple in his time on campus. It certainly seems like he grew quite a bit over the course of his life, and from some really terrible beginnings. My point is: bad apples exist, and to many different degrees. You've got to do something with them. Taking a flyer on one (whether in basketball, or at a job, or in a thousand other areas) and actively trying to improve/expand their lives isn't necessarily a bad thing. As far as basketball is concerned, sure you have to worry about the team dynamic, so I definitely don't advocate for 13 problem children. One or two, on the other hand, can be a risk worth taking. For the kid's sake, and for the team's sake. Again, not claiming this kids is, or will be a problem. It happens. It could be that Brush has a zero tolerance policy and/or he was fighting defensively. I also don't mind a little bit of that demeanor on my sports teams. Keep in mind, all of this getting to us is essentially hearsay. A bad apple on a college team IMO would be someone who is involved with real criminal activity, slacks with school, and/or is noticeably defiant towards authority. I've seen nothing to suggest Elmore is any of those things. There was an implied "if" in that statement. What I meant was "If he is a bad apple, we don't need him." No, I don't know the full story. It may, as some have suggested, been a defensive kind of situation. Or, it may have been more minor than what it at first blush appears to be. I'll be completely comfortable with whatever Boals decides to do. I'm sure he'll find out the completely story and can make a reasonable decision. If the kid is just a little "sandpaper" that's fine, but if he would be a disrupter then that's another story completely.
