In Saturday's game, it appeared Miami had a strategy that anytime TJ touched the ball the defense immediately tried doubling him--not showing TJ much ball handling respect.  If that is the case in Cleveland, here's hoping he and his teammates recognize it before it occurs and get some passes to the open man and make the RedHawk pay.

Felder will probably play much better than Saturday and the opposite for the number 22 who had a stellar 32 minutes in Oxford.

Get the ball to Campbell, Smith, Setty and N'Dour and play some two man games and pound that ball to the hoop.  That will open it up for the kick outs to Nick and Travis for the 3 pointers.

Bean, play tough like you did in Oxford and like you've been playing recently.  Stevie, sharpen your D and be ready to spell a few times a game.

OHIO never trails after the first 12 minutes in the first half in this one and wins with an 8 pt or greater cushion.

Go BOBCATS!

That #22 was big for them again.  I think he was leading or second highest scorer.  This aint gonna be a walk in the park!

ESPN box score, while not always accurate, shows Miami starting 3 guards last night and Willie Moore, at 6-3, listed as a starting forward. Actually, then, four starting guards. So, yes, pound it inside. Moore will have to start out guarding Jon Smith or Tony Campbell. Take advantage of the mismatches on the offensive end.

I didn't want to face Miami in Cleveland.  They present some real matchup problems for us, IMO.  Getting to the basket with Willie Moore et al, and we have a very hard time stopping that.  Our zone controls that to an extent, but then you have to hope Miami's not hot from three.

OTOH, we present some problems for Miami.  Our hi lo game with our bigs could be very productive.  Especially with Mo and Tony both able to knock down perimeter shots.

Miami has given us fits in both games this year, even though they were Bobcat wins.  Hopefully, we get out to a decent lead and keep it going through the game.

For anyone driving up tomorrow be safe.  The current forecast is calling for freezing rain in the morning, turning to snow by late morning, getting heavy through the evening commute.  6-8" of snow accumulation is expected.

Also, for anyone planning on driving up for the weekend games, take note that a section of 77 will be closed Friday night through Monday morning.

One thing we've got to do is improve FT shooting.  We've topped 70% just once in the last four games (BGSUcks, 10-13, 77%).  We were 15-23 (65%) last night; 12-19 (63%) at Fiami Saturday and just 18-33 (54.5%) on Senior Day vs Kent.  We can't afford to waste too many easy points in Cleveland.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

We take care of business and we win by 7-8.  But as JC says, this is a tough opponent and we better be ready.

Miami isn't extremely deep, which will wear on them if they find a way to get past the bobcats. Here were their min vs. Kent:

Starters:
Felder -36
Moore - 27
Sullivan - 37
Rollins - 36
McKnight - 33

Bench:
Hawkins - 2
Oswald - 11
Eustace - 18

Ohio minutes vs. Ball State:
Starters:
Smith - 26
Campbell - 17
Willis - 29
Kellogg - 27
Wilkins - 31

Bench:
Setty - 19
Hall - 21
Mompremier - 2
Ndour - 17
Taylor - 11

I like the mix of minutes we are getting out of our bench right now. It won't matter as much against Miami, but it would help us later in the tournament. I can't imagine Miami keeping up that amount of minutes for their starters if they happen to advance.

It doesn't matter that Miami has not beaten Ohio in the last 6 games. Or that Ohio literally beat them twice on Saturday in Oxford.

What matters is Wednesday night. To play again Thursday, the Bobcats must score more points than Miami tonight.

Had this been a regular season game, I would have stayed home and I would have advised all to do the same. But this game is important. So I have circumvented the approaching winter storm by traveling on Tuesday. Greetings from the computer room at the Cleveland Public Library.

Late winter frontal systems are nothing to be trifled with. It was a weeknight trip to Kent State when the National Weather Service warned of freezing precipitation. I did not heed the forecast. I had wrangled a media credential by agreeing to transport The Post's reporter for enough mileage reimbursement to pay for a week's worth of Court Street when we returned. Two things make a young man lose his mind; one of them is dollar signs. Heading north on I-77, we hit the weather somewhat north of Newcomerstown. As the road became treacherous, my passenger was torn. Should he urge me to slow down or pull over at the risk of missing media room snacks? Or should he remain silent in the hopes that Frank Truitt left him a hot dog.

Outside Strasburg, it all came unglued. The car lost traction and spun clockwise. We grazed the guardrail, which sped up our rotation. I saw the headlights of oncoming traffic, but only briefly as the car continued around. At 270 degrees, I realized it would be a good time to steer into the spin. We completed the full 360 and the car stabilized; somehow the engine was still running. I dropped a gear and resumed almost as if nothing had happened.

My passenger knew something had happened, and politely requested that I pull the hell over so he could vomit. While he dealt with his delicacies, I checked the damage. It was minimal and I decided we could continue the journey. I saw a plow pass and reentered the interstate, following as far as I needed. At Memorial Gym, I had a press room hot dog.

So be careful tomorrow. Or leave home now. Affordable hotel rooms are still available and I'll be at the Winking Lizard until they refuse to serve me.

The choices are 1) there's no way that we lose this game or 2) whatthehellhappened.

This is a game that we absolutely should win.

After this game, I dunno for sure.  But this one is us.

Look for lots of ball pressure out front on Bean. If he handles it ...we live to play another day. TO's and points off TO's are going to absolutely be the stat to watch.

I'll take it a step further.  If they force him to his right, we're in even bigger trouble.  That would be away from Nick and my bet is a shot chart shows him hitting more threes from the left wing than the right.

We have a nice streak going against them but we came pretty close to getting swept by them this year.  We are going to need to play well.

Alan, I'd bet that 90% or more players have marked, easy-to-see tendencies.  Do most of their scoring from certain places on the floor.  The problem is stopping it even when ya know it's coming.

Mo seems to be in much better health than he was a week or so ago.  And Campbell is much more experienced.  Setty.  Bean being Bean.  Nick, Jon, Wilkins, TJ.  Stevie, if he can.   Barring health problems, we are the better team.

We win tomorrow.
