No word on whether Coach Boals will call for the bombing of power plants and bridges near other MAC institutions. Still cashing those big checks while complaining about budgetary shortfalls.

He could have done us all a big favor by accepting the alleged OSU offer.

I'm sure this conversation started off from an innocent Miami fan...

They have one good season and still can't get out of the actual first round of the tournament. They'll have the new basketball arena built just to have more empty seats like usual. Dude got his feelings hurt and had to run to the fan forums to cry🤣

I'm glad he told the Miami fan to F off. You're mad he danced in the visiting locker room? What a dumb ass take. Making fun of the Millett crowd before the last 3 months, very very valid and accurate.

Also, how appropriate the Miami fan was there because he is a Uconn fan. Unless their team has an active 20+ game win streak, Miami "fans" can't be bothered with their actual school.

I take very little stock in the supposed quotes from this eavesdropping journalist. We know Boals wants more resources, and I don't doubt it was part of the conversation. We've all agreed his rhetoric on the topic is too whiney, but I am not sure most of us wouldn't be similar in the same situation.

You guys were 24-0 when we played at your auditorium. If you were 21-3 at that point, your president is buying tickets and giving them away for free again.

The most interesting part of this is the mystery 6'9" Serbian recruit.

I mean, I don't see any reason for someone to completely fabricate a conversation with a mid major basketball coach like this.

There is probably some truth to some of this. We've all heard Boals complain about one thing or the other in relation to NIL in press conferences. Which is still so odd considering the proven mid major level additions we made during last year's transfer cycle.

If this is all bothering him, why not just take the OSU job? He's obviously close with Diebler.

What a weird spot to be in as a program. Is it possible administration just doesn't like Boals at this point and wants to see him leave?

I'm guessing the 6'9 Serbian is Dusan Makitan. I posted about him weeks ago when Boals started following him. He'd fit that description.

+1,000,000

This all checks out to me as well in terms of what Boals has already said on the record about NIL/Portal and finances.

I believe this conversation took place and if we really do get a 6'9 Serbian then yeah...I really believe it.

I was begging for Boals to take a #1 assistant job at a top 40 program last month. Wish he would have bolted for Columbus.

I read "haven't even met yet" as someone who isn't stateside. Also, Makitan follows Boals, Lee Martin, Casey Crawford, Jake Ness, and Javan.

Saranec has no staff follows. Which isn't everything, but I really do think it's Makitan.

I like Makitan's film. He has a nice shot as a big man, athletic, long and has experience playing in games with pro's. Yes please.

Idk, man. There looks to be some truth to the Serbian portal addition that might end up being Makitan. If that's the case, the convo transpired.

Nothing else noted from it sounds entirely out of touch based on what we've already heard from Boals himself.

Dumping on Hadaway would be pretty wild, but not an inaccurate comment to make based on behavior.

I do too. Also like the idea of bringing in international players. No idea how leagues compare. That said, if Makitan is brought in, this doesn't feel like a struggle bus NIL portal addition the way Boals has indicated at times.

Kinda wanna know who the other coach was that supposedly witnessed this conversation. I feel like if it was an OU assistant they would have said so. If it was another head coach for a different team, now that's something.

IF this is a concocted story, the writer did a perfect job capturing a believable persona. Our coach has a history of popping off and making himself the donkey, usually on social media.

But that's been late night drinky time and not breakfast.

Still, I'm inclined to believe it. I'm livid on every front.

This is the first thread where I've actually seen a budget mentioned. $600k actually seems like a solid budget, especially if Simmons is a ~$100k player. A $600k payroll for a 4 month season is certainly not nothing.

Hard not to wonder where last year's money went.

I'd guess Simmons, Pavs, and Hadaway. We were top heavy with production and lacked everywhere else.

Augustino has visited -- a 19ppg Mid-Major player. Devin Royal has been talked about -- proven 14ppg P5 player. Sounds like we've landed Makitan. Javan was retained. Boals is following P5 castoffs who recently entered the portal. On the surface it wouldn't appear to be so bad from an NIL standpoint. Or does Boals' opinion of his program conflict with results and he believes he deserves more than he's currently receiving?

Maybe that's the real issue at hand. Boals hasn't been shy about whining over resources to the media (sure fire way to piss off your boss in sports). Imagine how he is behind closed doors.

These next few weeks will be telling based on who transfers in.

Let's not act like it's completely unprecedented for a coach to take a pay cut to help fund the revenue share. Boals could absolutely do this, and yet he continues to bitch about not having enough resources. And it's mostly happened to coaches who were more or less on a hot seat or under pressure to win. Might be a good time to tighten your belt, Coach.

St. Bonnies cut the HC salary and hired a winning D2 coach to allocate more into roster build. They've since surrounded him with vet D1 assistants.

Will be fascinating to watch their portal additions and see the results.
