As polarizing as Cal is he often summarizes present reality in Basketball really well.

Was Dan Hauser ever a prospect for our AD job when Cromer and Slade were hired? Right hand man to Schaus during our athletics "golden era" and as AD has High Point positioned as the class of low major hoops.

Its "easier" when you aren't spending most of your time on budged cuts and/or searching for nickels and dimes. No?

They are certainly in a different financial position than we are. Their campus looks like a resort. According to Google their yearly tuition exceeds $71K per year.

"It caters to wealthy, Wall Street types. “Half of Wall Street sends their kids to this school,” High Point University president Nido Qubein told the WSJ in an interview. The school’s strategy is to appeal to families who can pay the full price for a jet-set, high-society experience.

It has a steakhouse, a faux airplane cabin interior, six swimming pools and six hot tubs, 28 gardens, and private tiny home-style dorms. These amenities and even more are what set High Point apart. They say you can hear a fountain burbling from most places on campus. Some of its critics call it a “glorified country club,” according to the WSJ"

To be honest he wasn't going to get the Ohio job out of the gate when Schaus left. Now that he has gone 2/2 on basketball hires, he is definitely an intriguing candidate for moving up. That said, given what has been mentioned above, his choices for jobs is going to be I believe limited, due to what High Point currently offers and the set-up of the school. In addition, many private schools are not in a great place right now so moving to one of those types of schools is not in the cards for folks either.

While they are not in Akron's league when it comes financial instability, they do have a tremendous amount of debt. At one point the bonds they issued for campus improvements were downgraded by Moody's to junk level. On the positive side, their president has donated over $10 million to the school.
