Willis, Ndour both on fire as Ohio blows out Miami

Bobcats end losing streak in grand fashion

ATHENS - Javarez Willis knocked down 10 3-pointers to finish with a career-high 34 points, and Maurice Ndour scored 27 points as Ohio thumped Miami, 95-65, to emphatically end its seven-game losing streak in its final regular season game Friday night at The Convo.

The Bobcats were on fire, shooting 57.1 percent, including a 17-of-31 effort from beyond the arc, and missed only once in 15 tries at the foul line. They raced out to a 53-30 halftime lead and cruised in the second half.

Willis was 10-of-15 from long range and added six rebounds and six assists, while Ndour went 8-of-11 overall, including 5-of-7 on treys, with 11 boards and six blocks. Ryan Taylor added nine points and four assists.

Will Sullivan paced the RedHawks with 19 points. Eric Washington added 10 points and eight rebounds.

After a Sullivan 3-pointer to start the game, Ohio scored the next 12 points - five by Ndour and then seven by Willis - to go up 12-3, and then after a Miami basket, the Bobcats scored five more in a row to quickly take a double-digit lead it held almost the rest of the way.

Miami trimmed the lead to 19-10 at the 13:21 mark, but Ndour drained a 3-pointer, and after one more RedHawks bucket, the Bobcats went on a 21-6 run to go up 43-16 with 5:14 left in the half. Miami hit four straight 3s, but Ohio finished the half on a 10-2 run for a 23-point halftime lead.

Ohio's lead reached 30 on a Treg Setty layup six minutes into the second half, and after Miami cut the deficit to as few as 17 points, Willis hit back-to-back treys and Ohio closed the game by outscoring its rival 22-9 to win by 30.

Despite a 7-of-12 effort by Sullivan that included making 5-of-8 3-pointers, the RedHawks shot just 26-of-71 (36.6 percent) and were only 3-of-7 on free throws.

Ohio had more turnovers, 14-11, but converted nearly every Miami mistake on offense, scoring 22 points off turnovers, compared to just 11 by the RedHawks. Miami had 12 offensive rebounds but just two second-chance points.

Antonio Campbell scored only four points for Ohio on 2-of-4 shooting but had nine rebounds in 18 minutes.

Western Michigan knocked off Central Michigan, and Akron lost to Kent State, putting the Broncos in the No. 6 position in the standings, meaning the 11th-seeded Bobcats will travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan, for the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament at 7 p.m. Monday.
