Buffalo hammers Ohio 93-66

Bobcats lose 7th straight game

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Buffalo scored 52 points in the second half and handed Ohio its seventh straight loss, 93-66, on Tuesday night at Alumni Arena.

The Bulls' lead was just 41-32 after a Javarez Willis 3-pointer to start the second half, but things got away from the Bobcats quickly after that, with Buffalo using a 12-0 run to go up 22 only five minutes into the half.

Maurice Ndour scored 25 points with six rebounds, and Willis had 15 points and five assists for Ohio, but defense was the struggle. Justin Moss had 22 points and 17 boards, Shannon Evans scored 16 points with 11 assists, and to Rodell Wiggington, who originally signed with Ohio before backing out with the coaching change, finished with 20 points and six rebounds.

"We got clobbered in every way imaginable," Ohio coach Saul Phillips said. "We got drilled in the paint, beat on the offensive glass. They shot the ball extremely well from the perimeter. Their guards were extremely, extremely effective at getting two feet into the paint. They played like a team that's playing for a championship. We played like a team that's sitting at the bottom of the MAC East."

The Bulls (20-9, 11-6 Mid-American Conference) avenged a loss in Athens earlier this season in which the Bobcats won on an Ndour dunk in the final seconds. They shot nearly 50 percent (36-of-73) and made 10-of-23 3-pointers.

Buffalo had six-point and eight-point runs all before the nine-minute mark of the second half to push its lead to as big as 75-46.

Ohio (9-19, 4-13 MAC) led 15-13 in the first half after a Treg Setty 3-pointer, but Buffalo went on a 9-0 run and did not trail again. The Bobcats were within five before back-to-back 3-pointers by Wiggington and Evans pushed the lead to double-digits, and after an Ndour steal and dunk made it a six-point game, the Bulls ran off six straight points.

After a string of good games, Antonio Campbell fouled out with just 16 minutes playing, finishing 1-of-7 for two points and four rebounds. Stevie Taylor had a season-high seven assists.

Ohio closes the regular season by hosting rival Miami at 7 p.m. Friday at The Convo.
