Miami easily erases 1st-half deficit to beat Ohio

Campbell has double-double to lead Bobcats in loss

OXFORD - Ohio led by as much as 14 in the first half, but Miami took over after that and knocked off Ohio, 77-66, on Saturday at Millett Hall.

The RedHawks shot 58.3 percent in the second half and cruised down the stretch on an afternoon where Miami retired the jersey of the late Charlie Coles.

Geovonie McKnight and Eric Washington had 17 points each, and Will Sullivan scored 15 points for Miami (9-16, 4-8 Mid-American Conference).

Ohio (9-14, 4-8 MAC) was led by Antonio Campbell's double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Javarez Wilis finished with 14 points, and Maurice Ndour had 11 points and nine boards.

The Bobcats' lead was 27-13 midway through the first half before things turned, beginning with seven straight RedHawks points. Ohio pushed the lead back to 13 before a 9-0 Miami run ade it a 33-29 game.

After Ohio led 41-38 at halftime, Miami took the lead for good with 14:05 remaining on the first of three straight McKnight baskets. A Ryan Taylor jumper stopped the run, but the RedHawks came back with 10 straight points to take control. Miami's lead remained double-digits the rest of the game.

After shooting 50 percent in the first half, the Bobcats shot 40 percent in the second half. The RedHawks finished the game at 55.1 percent and committed only six turnovers.

Ohio got to the foul line only three times, making two. Nearly half of its shot attempts were from beyond the arc, where it finished 10-of-28 (35.7 percent). Miami was 18-of-26 on free throws and attempted only 12 3-pointers, making five.

Washington dished out seven assists with only one turnover for Miami, and McKnight led Miami in rebounding with six. Willie Moore had five points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists.

The Bobcats play at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Western Michigan.
